Oh, man! That's a real shock. I'm very sad to hear this news. Brian's a good guy. He was Z100's voiceover guy from 1992-1999. He did great takes on Morning Zoo liners! I used to really enjoy chatting on the ISDN box before sessions. He'll be missed.

Wow. I hear ya Matt. When I would fill in for you doing production at Z100 I would occasionally work with Brian via ISDN. Easy to work with, took direction and was done quickly. I still have and wear my Brian James hat that Ken Benson gave me.

I didn't know his name or how popular he was, but I have heard him announcing on KNBR S.F. What a crying shame, 48 is way too young to die. RIP Brian.

What A Loss! Brian had a voice that really stood out. This from R&R: -----------------------Radio Mourns Brian James----------------------- By Kevin Carter The unmistakable voice of Brian James has been stilled. James, 48, died of a heart attack at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Friday (March 6). Over the years, James' voice was the soundtrack of many of the world's best radio stations, including WHTZ (Z100)/New York, KIIS-FM/Los Angeles, KFRC/San Francisco, WFLZ/Tampa during its formative "Power Pig" days, B94/Pittsburgh and countless others worldwide. James was also the voice of "Extra," which ran a tribute to him on Friday. "He made stations sound like the biggest stations in the world," one fan appropriately noted online. James is survived by his wife, Kimberly; son Max; and a stepdaughter, Brooke. Clear Channel's Rich Stevens took the time to create a Facebook tribute page and discussion board about James. If you would like to share your own thoughts about Brian James, please click here. "We'll miss you, Brian," says Scott Sands, PD of one of James' early clients, WZPL/Indianapolis. "You'll always be the voice."

His website is still up. You can, for now, still hear his demos here: http://www.brianjames.com/demo.html Great voice. I'll miss it as a listener of KPOJ. Just won't be the same.

Yeah, that's true. He had a great, warm, friendly sound. I can only hope he was that way in life. Assuming that is true, he will be missed.

Missing: Yes, that's really how he was. I can't say I knew him well, but we'd get to have some great conversations before sessions when the tape wasn't rolling. A really dry wit, and quirky sense of humor. Fun to talk to. Granted, that was 10 years ago, when he was still Z100's voice. As KPOJ's voice, he'd just send tracks via mp3, and I seldom communicated with him directly. RIP, Brian.

A great voice and an outstanding man. I have several sweepers from Z100 where he says my name. I will always cherish them. Rest In Peace, Brian.

Brian James was the ultimate station voice! He made Z100 sound like the #1 station in the market, which it was at the time. He's also been the male voice of Eugene's "Star 102.3" since 2003. Radio will not be the same with him.
