I suffer from this problem as well, and I can't grow a decent looking beard, anyway. I had a handlebar mustache for a little while, but apparently, I was the only one who thought that was cool.
In my opinion, most of the things that one would have to do to get in the Guiness Book of World Records are such hideous excesses that I would never want to attempt them.
