Are these coffee shops racist or are they just having fun?? A portland coffee shop has just added Obama Mochas to their menu. These "Obama mochas" contain "Milk chocolate" not "dark Chocolate"

I am not offended. Obama is half white and half black - not exactly a secret. A drink that points that out isn't racist.

Nope its in Portland too! Infact they are running a news story on channel 6 tonight about it. Infact some people are "Outraged" over this.

Seriously though, anybody that is that easily offended or outraged needs a ton of therapy.

If they named a drink "Half Bald Old Fat Honkey" I wouldn't give it a second thought. (what would they put in a drink named that anyway???!!!)

That being said, yeah, maybe the cartoon isn't in the best taste, but who cares.

I took the cartoon differently than others seem to have. People seem to think the chimp is supposed to be Obama. I took it to mean the stimulus bill was written by a chimpanzee (that is, a little crazy) and didn't think of Obama at all. He didn't write the stimulus bill, anyway.

It's not really a stretch to make the connection between Obama and the chimpanzee. Not to mention it also suggests assassination as a way to deal with those you disagree with. Not cool on either level.

It may not be a stretch, but it's not the only way to interpret it, and it's not the way I first interpreted it.

Now, I do think the publisher realized how people might interpret the cartoon and might have exercised better judgment. Just because you have free speech doesn't mean you should always exercise it. I mean, I could go around insulting everyone because I can - but should I?

Then again, it's been a lot of publicity for the Post. I'll bet Rupert Murdoch doesn't mind.
