Isn't CBS aggressively trying to sell all their Portland stations? I'm quite sure I remember them saying something to that effect not long ago.

KHITS AND KXJM have been sold to Clear Channel. Nothing new on the other four stations. Not related to CBS, but I've heard that Bill Diez is out at KXL.

Forgive me. if this question has already been asked but

Where will Jammin and Kufo go when they are sold? Will they still stay in the same building, or will they be in a completely different location.

"Where will Jammin and Kufo go"

KUFO hasn't yet been sold, so I'm guessing you meant KLTH.

KXJM and KLTH would move to the CC building, but is there room at 4949?

A couple of things. Semoochie is correct, the KPTV building currently houses the Portland Opera AND upper floors are being used as offices for the eastside "Big Pipe" sewer project. CC also apparently signed a lease for the new building slated for development, but the developer has not broken ground on the project yet. CC is in just as bad shape as any other broadcast company. They signed the lease before the economy tanked. My understanding is that if the project for the new building falls through that CC will not be moving. My information is second-hand...so please, anyone from CC Portland, feel free to chime in!

Trixter - Why do you say May? You said that in this topic and in the Leykis topic. Is that a guess? Do you know something? I think Rick's show is great. Granted, I'm just a listener but I can't believe he would not be able to be at one of the stations in the CBS cluster.

Isn't "Bubba The Love Sponge" the jock who slaughtered a live pig on air? Apparently the FCC didn't care that much because he is still on the air.

Don Imus called a black lady a "Nappy Headed ho", and he gets fired, while "Bubba the Love Sponge slaughters a pig live on the air and gets a slap on the wrist from the FCC.

Why in the heck would CBS bring "Bubba The Love Sponge" to kufo mornings? Since Carolla is leaving, I think they should Syndicate Opie and Anthony.

Yeah, it was Bubba who had a hunter slaughter a wild boar live on the air. He actually had contacted the Florida Dept. of Fish and Wildlife prior to the bit, and the boar was humanely slaughtered, but with the use of sound effects, he made it sound like the animal was being brutalized.

I was working for CC at the time and while I have no objection to animals being humanely slaughtered for food, I sent him a strongly worded e-mail objecting to it because of the desensitizing effect such a bit had on people when it came to animal cruelty. His program director then called me from Tampa and expressed his anger about my lack of support for another CC employee!

I hung up on him.

EXCELLENT Radiodawgz! That old CC mentality has always drove me nuts! Only worked for Clear Cut a short time years back, and I never saw any love before, during and after working for them.

In fact the best folks I've always enjoyed working the real radio "team" concept were those that understood radio from all levels of experience. This included individuals that worked for various corporate "entities" but remembered where they came from and how they got there... through commitment, effort, determination and heart.

Just appreciated reading what you did.

Thanks again.

Just out of curiosity, especially the climate the way it is in radio why wouldn't a company such as CBS put a local morning show in? Wouldn't they save money on fresh local talent, instead of retread syndicated morning shows?

I'm not in his prime demographic (male, 60+) but I'm a big Bubba The Love Sponge mark. I found him inadvertently on Sirius... didn't like him at first, but have slowly become a huge fan. He has managed to juggle both a Sirius channel show and a Cox syndication deal simultaneously, and is getting better numbers every day. One of those "20-year-overnight-sensation" stories.

Bubba's an honest old-school broadcaster, not a "comedian-trying-radio" type. He's not everyone's cup of tea. He's crass, not terribly bright, a destroyer of the language... but he's unique and original. If Portland's lucky enough to get a guy of his caliber, give him a try.

When I was programming Fisher-owned KWJJ, a rule came down within corporate that all internships had to be paid if they performed any work that a paid employee would do. This was Fisher policy. Why? It turns out KOMO-TV had some huge number of interns...and it became a labor issue with the state.
