I could be wrong, but I think I've heard a curious thing the past couple of early Saturday mornings as I have gone to pick my wife up from work (she is on a graveyard shift). KXL is apparently simulcasting on 95.5 FM its Saturday morning news block for ONLY ONE HALF-HOUR, from 6 to 6:30 a.m. and then joining Fox Sports programming in progress at 6:30. Why would KXL bother doing that for just a half-hour? I can see perhaps as a "test" of some sort if maybe they were contemplating switching news-talk to the FM side and making AM all sports (like is happening in Seattle with KIRO AM-FM). But I certainly have seen no indicators that KXL plans to do that.

Meeting the FCC requirement to air public interest. News counts toward the requirement. Same reason why all the other music stations air shows late on Sunday evening.

News and public service is different. At least, it used to be. I'm not sure about now.
