Kool has eased off of their 3 60s and 1 70s stance. It started off with a little bit of change and has grown exponentially! It sounds like there may be more 70s at this point and even some 80s. They are ever closer to K-Hits, including some album material I had not previously heard. Yesterday, I heard the opening bars of "Maggie Mae" and this morning, Jimi Hendrix. This last point makes me think they might plan to keep both stations afterall, with a traditional "Classic Hits" format on 105.9 and "Classic Hits/Oldies" on 106.7! Before this, I thought 105.9 would become a hybrid of Kool and K-Hits and 106.7, a simulcast of KEX, forcing KXL and "The Game" to swap frequencies.

I think 105.9 is trying to sound more like 106.7, in an effort to direct listeners to K-Hits. 105.9 should be flipping to something new.

I don't understand how this strategy could work.

Cuz CC owns both. One will change. No point cutting up that small piece of the pie.

They don't own it yet. I expect another 2-4 weeks. OK, how about this? If they decide to simulcast KEX, I expect it to be on one of the best signals and Kool will remain on 105.9, sounding more like K-Hits. If they don't simulcast KEX(and I can't believe they wouldn't grab the opportunity to save the franchise), either 105.9 or 106.7 will change and the other will adjust with the Kool moniker. I don't expect KPOJ to simulcast because there's no "brand name" to protect. It either works on 620 or it doesn't.

CC isn't simulcasting any heritage News/Talkers on FM, at this time. I don't see this happening in Portland, anytime soon.

NOW, the strategy makes sense! When Clear Channel acquires 106.7, they will direct the listeners of one of the stations to the one that will survive the other's change, possibly promoting the arrival of a new format in the process. It could be similar to what KIRO is doing, telling the existing talk listeners to switch to FM, and in the meantime announcing that 710 will become ESPN sports radio.

for petes sake do we need another 80's music station? I never cared much for that decade to begin with. Well except for Reagan and Back to the Future. I would rather hear 105.9 have more of a personality oldies station that would include 50's music and standards mixed in. There is no reason why we need to hear two stations playing the same songs.105.9 might consider adding more songs to their library at least. the same old movie hits gets tiresome! I have been listening to KLOO 106.3 a lot lately. They have done something with their signal and they have great variety.
