Conservative radio personality Lars Larson confronted Portland Mayor Sam Adams this morning at a City Council meeting. Adams thanked him, but otherwise had no comment. Neither did the other commissioners.

Larson, who signed up during the citizen communication portion of the agenda, asked Adams why he lied to voters about his 2005 sexual relationship with Beau Breedlove, an 18-year-old legislative intern.

"If Portland voters knew then what they know about you today, would you have been elected mayor?" Larson asked.

He also questioned the mayor about using his office staff and their time to defend his behavior.

Larson asked city commissioners: '"Why should you continue to do business with this man when he doesn't have the public trust?"

A smattering of applause greeted his comments and then he left.

One other man -- a Gresham resident -- quoted from the city's ethics manual and asked, given the mayor's lies, if that now gives him license to lie to inspectors who might come to his business.

who cares if he got publicity...he stuck it to that RAT good. a very creepy rat.

Lars Larson should be a man and come out of the closet and say that his beef with Adams is that he's gay. If Adams was a Republican, Lars would be defending him. When it comes to rats, Lars is a big fat one himself.

Just another pathetic attempt by a pathetic person to generate publicity for his pathetic radio show.

Besides, isn't Lars a Clark County resident?

Lars called for the Republican senator caught in the airport bathroom to resign. It's not about the political party or the fact that Sam refers to himself as a queer. Vitalogy, you don't expect MORE from the mayor?

Actually I think Vitalogy was one of the first posters on the mayor's sin's to say "outa here".

The response of the city council was spot-on.

Right up there with guys who sport the "fouxhawk" ... the up turned collar... and dudes who wear pink.

Read the other side, I've said that Adams should resign, if not, I hope he gets recalled. In fact, I'm not convinced that a crime didn't actually occur. What I have a problem with is homophobes like Lars Larson using their bigotry to promote their own paycheck. And he's not even a registered voter in the state of Oregon, much less Portland.

Looking, bringing this back to radio, I will say again what I've said before. Though I disagree with Lars on almost everything, the fact that Lars has so many people on both sides fired up--and the fact that he's virtually a household name, a single syllable that brings an instant reaction-- proves that he's bringing his A-game to his radio job.

There's no talker in this market or maybe on the west coast who comes even close in terms of self-branding and name recognition. This is an old-school thing and it's fading. Denver has Peter Boyles, who jumps on things like JonBenet and turns them into a personal crusade; there've been similar guys in Boston and LA, guys with outrageous and extreme opinions who get personally involved in top-of-mind stories and do things that come off as stunts, but really are sincere, like Lars' City Council appearance. He keeps people talking, he reinforces his brand, and though he apparently believes what he says, he knows exactly what he's doing in a Machiavellian sense as well.

As a pretty-much-liberal, I say, go away. But as a radio guy, I say, props.

very well said Eastwood....I have been friends with Lars for years...and we do not agree on a whole lot! But I will hand this to my friend, he always LISTENS to my views. He has his twists & angles, but he Listens. I just think he is a master of that medium. I tried it. It is NOT easy, as a matter of fact, it is a major stress zone doing it and the prep is endless. I'm proud to call Yak Yak my pal. I have never seen a guy work harder in this business. EVER.
