As much as this guy down plays what he did he keeps stepping up as great guy with a truckload of integrity.
---------------------------

Hero pilot Sully Sullenberger is now every librarian's hero, too. When Sully's plane ended up in the Hudson River last month, so did a book he had checked out from the library at Fresno State through his local library in Danville, CA. Sullenberg contacted the library and asked for an extension and waiver of overdue fees because the book was in the airplane's cargo hold Fresno State library officials say they were so struck by Sullenberger's sense of responsibility that they waived all fees, even lost book fees, and placed a template on the replacement book, dedicating it to him. The book's subject: Professional ethics.

I doubt it...the economy is a lot more unwieldy than a dead A320 and would probably catch a wingtip and cartwheel.

The economy has suffered at the hands of pilot Bush more akin to the fate of Pan Am Flight 103.

The audio was released today. Sully's calmness is amazing. More proof of his hero status.

The guy did his job very well - does that make him a hero? I thought heroes risked or gave their lives to save someone else. I don't mean to put the man down, I just think we cheapen the word "hero" when someone does their job very well and we call them a hero for that.

That is one definition of " hero." ( One that I happen to believe fits your example, by the way ). It's a perfectly reasonable question to ask.

So, yes. That makes him a hero - to me.

I can't make anyone else believe it. I do.

Expectations are in play here too. Honestly, I think our general expectations are low enough that just doing solid work and being humble about it is hero like. It lets people know that's ok.

I look up to those kind of people, mostly because I think they are strong. It takes personal strength of character to just be humble, just do it, and be selfless about it.

AH YES, Gremlins! Anyone remember the Twilight Zone episode with William Shatner as a passenger on a flight were he is the only one able to see the Gremlin tearing apart the plane outside?

"Nightmare at 20,000 Feet"

One of the best ever episodes!

“ Sully” should be considered a great inspiration to ALL Americans, and how he handled that situation is how EACH of us should handle our economic crisis; Realize the plane
( economy) is falling, figure out our options, STAY calm, and land in the safest possible spot.

AOK, in this time of peril, people need hero's. With ALL of the bad in the news, "Sully" has been a story of courage and hope.

Our newly re-elected president was supposed to be a hero, however thus far he has fallen flat.

Sully is a class act, skilled pilot. His crew deserve all the recognition possible. I missed the interview but hope to see parts of it on youtube.

I also think the way they are handling all the notoriety is also filled with class.

But what about the Air Traffic Controller? The tape played by the "GOP" stations stops when he says he is going into the Hudson.

The air traffic controller was landing planes, getting runways cleared for the A302 before and after the plane landed in the Hudson.

But the "GOP" stations don't want the great work done by the Air Traffic Controller publizied, because he's a government employee.

So I guess we really have a "Right Wing" Media as we have for several decades.

But what about the Air Traffic Controller? The tape played by the "GOP" stations stops when he says he is going into the Hudson.

That's because that is the last transmission from the US Air flight.

LISTEN TO THE TAPE.

I posted the link to the FAA site, it has all the ATC tapes as well as transcripts of those tapes.

Are you libs really that hateful of everything GOP that you think the, as you call them, GOP radio stations would stop the tape just because the ATC guys are government employees?

No wonder this country is so F'd up with people thinking like that.

I'm surprised that no one here has tried to blame this on Bush.

I heard that he instructed those birds to commit Gooseicide by flying into the engines of that plane because it was full of democrats.

(See we can make silly comments too!)

Roger's last post hit the nail right on the head.

Yawn . . . Ionce safely stopped a 105,500 lb disabled vehicle once without wiping out innocent lives and causing damage to the vehicle or property. In fact, because of my calm and cool demeanor, virtually nobody else noticed that an extreme emergency situation existed during the manuever.

Just like Capt Sully, I was JUST DOING MY JOB! GEEZ!

Well Skep look at it this way, Sully is the poster child for all of those who are "just doing their jobs." Thank you for doing yours!

I once pulled my 4 year old son out of the way of traffic. My actions saved his life, but I was just being a parent.

Good parents ARE heros. They're not being paid to raise kids. So my hats off to you Chris for being extra interested in your child's well being.

Meanwhile, I think Capt Sully deserves a nice safety award package -- sort of like the one I got -- a weekend at the beach and a nice jacket.

There is a problem with migration this year. We had over one hundred Canadian Geese on our land on Saturday.

They are going back South again, but isn't that suppose to happen in September/October?
