Canon employees in Tokyo are being sent home from work early twice a week to have sex. The initiative is aimed at improving the country's low birthrate, which is believed to be in part the result of regular 12-hour workdays. The company's spokesperson said, "Canon has a very strong birth planning program." (CNN) Let me just add how much I love working from home with my wife.

I'm surprised that the Japanese would worry about low birthrates. My perception of that country was that it had a lot of people crowded into a relatively small area. Would a single guy like myself be expected to stay in at the office and hold down the fort while the married employees are sent home to help out the birth rates?

One of the lowest birth rates in the world, but at the same time the Japanese have the longest life expectancy. Go figure.

> the Japanese have the longest life expectancy. They eat lots of raw fish, have a lot of stress, and smoke a lot. How do they manage to live so long?
