I didn't want to bring this up on Pattee's B-day thread . . .

What was the deal with KISN's nightly rundown of the daily results at Multnomah Kennel Club? A good 5 minutes was wasted every night.

Exactly who would be listening for this report?

Was it to comply with the FCC's mandate for public service? Was it considered "news" and counted as such?

Was it part of Don Burden's plan to best the competition? (Yes, I'm talking about KGW.)

Another question: Exactly how did Don Burden convince Uncle Don Wright to jump ship? Surely he knew of the mounting legal troubles . . . Or did he wear out his welcome at KGW?

I don't know the answer but I have a sneaking suspicion it was paid for by the Kennel Club as a long form spot, like todays infomercials.

In case you weren't around at the time, you would not know that the dog races at MKC were a big thing at the time. That parking lot that is now a shopping Mall and Fred Meyer store were always packed and the races were a big thing. You might as well forget about driving around there when the races ended at night. The surrounding roads were two lane not very good access to freeways. However, I-84 into Portland at 11PM were like rush hour after the the races ended. I would presume the reason was to play to that audience. That and the horse races were about the only gambling going on around here at the time. People were interested in the dog races.
