Look what the bastards are doing to our country even before Tuesday's Inauguration.

This will allow the President to remain in office beyond a two term limit.

Hail King Obama !

HELL NO. Scary shit.

Rather than this, they SHOULD be passing an amendment to ADD term limits to ALL elected officials.

Of course now that lord Obama will be President, I'm sure all the libs and Dems will be for this.

I'm not for it. But if Obama or anyone else could run for a third term, and they got enough votes to win, I would abide by that. As if I had a choice.

Talk about paranoia! This bill was introduced by one congressman, Rep. Jose Serrano. Individual congresspeople propose wacky stuff all the time, on both the right and the left. Just because one person proposes something doesn't mean it has any chance of being passed by the House AND the Senate AND by a 2/3 majority (required by the Constitution for the Amendment to be referred to the states). But if it does, you can blame Republicans because this bill CANNOT pass with just Democrats voting for it.

Even then, the amendment would need to be ratified by 3/4 of the state legislatures to become part of the US Constitution.

The chances of this thing ever seeing the light of day are precisely zero. Please do stop worrying about such non-issues.

I don't think this thing has a chance really; remember, it has to be ratified by Congress, and two-thirds of the states.

Not gonna happen.

I have faith in the American people to get Obama out if things aren't right ... and I also have a feeling that Obama will lean much more on the people around him and not try to circumvent, or outright ignore the Constitution as King George did.

As opposed to King George II saying "a dictatorship would be easier, only if I could be dictator"? Give a goddamn break Skybill.

You know the thing that really irks me about your post is if this had been proposed when a republican like Ronald Reagan was in office (and it actually was at the time), you probably wouldn't say squat about it. The only reason it was put in the constitution in the first place was because the then republican congress didn't want another FDR going on for 20 years. I personally have always opposed term limits on the president. The voters will do their jobs, just like they did their jobs in 1980 and 1992 and if Bush had run in 2008, he would have been out. You make this issue only because it's a democrat.

Personally, I don't think it will pass, but I don't oppose it.

SCAREbill...
The Republicans threw this around just before the 2004 elections and I think LimBLAH talked about it as well.
It will NEVER pass!

Gotta love how conservatives are peeing their pants these days over nothing. Heh.

Glad to see these guys get a taste of what it was like for many Americans under Bush.

May you get royally screwed for the next 8 years.

We all will be for at least 4 years.

Edit add: BTW, I'm not for this no matter who is in office. I've touted, and very strongly support, term limits for EVERY elected official no matter what their party affiliation or office is.

No, we won't. The screw comes out on Tuesday for most of us. Even if Obama is a God-awful president, its not gonna hurt as much as the last 8 years.

Maybe, Maybe not.

I wish him the best and hope he does turn things around without screwing over too many people.

I'm not going to hold my breath though.

Bill, if we are all screwed the next 4 years, it's in large part due to George W. Bush. No, I don't blame him solely for screwing up the economy, but things like spending trillions in Iraq are going to make it much harder to dig ourselves out of this hole.

Spending trillions in Iraq is one half, the other half is letting Wall street have an orgy.

Yup, the Shrub almost singlehandedly put the pieces in the blender and selected "shred."

...I had to destroy the free market economy to save it...........

Thanks for that. Don't take ALL the credit though. Short term thinking by investment houses, mega mergers and corporate raiders, a willingness to shed U.S. jobs in favor of lower priced imported goods, and an "all for me none for you" mentality in the business world, didn't start on YOUR watch.

As for the bailout BS, the future seeds sown are that busineses are more than willing to sell anything for cash. Trade community responsibility for cash, crash a long time industry for short term gain, allow government intervention and control in exchange for cash.

Sad to see such a willingness to hand our problems over to DC for the fix.

Yep everyone(thing) has their price. A junkie will sell out for a fix, an average american for "national security", a bank, or corporation, a few billion pieces of paper from an "authorized" printing press.

We might not FEEL any different, but the changes are being implemented, the freedoms are slipping away, and most people don't care because it doesn't affect them personally.... yet.

MANDATORY PASSPORTS so you can RETURN FROM Canada or the Bahamas, or Mexico. A small thing, a few extra bucks for the Gov, and yet no big deal right?

Somewhere down the road when all vehicles will be REQUIRED to be Green and your travel is restricted to how far your battery will take you, will that too be a loss of freedom, or another case of it being "good for the planet" and hence good for us all?

Yes I am exagerating, but until genetic breeding can populate the earth with a singular mindset, Government will continue to "persuade" people to all get together. No room for individualism.

Too many people are perfectly happy to let the gov fix everything...........

maybe not you point of view if not.....

(he's not one of us... Stone him stone him......)
