WOW! I can't believe it! And maybe, JUST maybe Ryan will interview such class act- talented stars like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, complete with an extensive American Idol wrap up, and if we're really lucky , Ryan will voice some local sounding rejoin liners such as
" You're listening to Ryan Seacrest on Z100".
Have you ever noticed that Clear Channel shares the same initials as "Cookie Cutter"?

RadioPerfessor put this on the Seattle RI board about Seacrest on KBKS... RP is a known consultant:

"Seacrest show is a brilliant move by Clear Channel, as is their evening syndication and national morning show syndication, in my humble opinion. Let's do the math:

Seacrest is paid ten million for syndication.
Clear Channel is clearing the show on 400 stations including all of the top twenty.
The station provides 4 units an hour which Clear Channel sells across the syndication for 10,000 to 20,000 dollars per unit. ( a great value since an LA spot alone could cost 2 grand)
That is 80,000 an hour, 240,000 a day, 60,000,000 a year. 40,000,000 profit less the 10,000,000 to Seacrest and commissions.

That doesn't count the cost savings in each market for eliminating talent. You may not like the national syndication parameter, but it makes money. Seacrest will clear 40,000,000 for Clear Channel after expenses. Ratings are not critical. As long as KBKS can generate a 2 share 18-34 in mid-days the model works because it is a national aggregate rating CPP. In mornings the dollars are even greater for syndication and the cost savings to each market greater.

Get it now. The national chains will syndicate reducing costs locally and create a high margin revenue stream nationally. In major markets they will use two or three stations in a cluster for syndication and keep a couple local based. In small markets all will be syndication. Game, set, match! Localism loses but this all about dollars in my humble view."

I heard that at the Golden Globes Brad and Angelina flat did not want to talk to him and he was chasing after them yelling their names! To Funny! Good For Them!

http://showhype.com/video/brad_pitt_angelina_jolie_diss_ryan_seacrest_live_on_tv /

Then after avoiding Seacrest they give the interview to “Access Hollywood’s” Billy Bush. Ouch!

As much as you all want to hate on the guy, he is still ten times better then anything this market has to offer.

While you all get fired job after job he has actually managed to make a really great living doing what he does.

That being said, I dont really like him and most likely will not listen, I am more of a Rock guy but I can appreciate the hard work he has put into his job.

....I can appreciate the hard work he has put into his job......

Then appreciate the equal HARD WORK some of the local voices put in and were shown the door.

SAT RAD is a perfect place for all the syndie shows.

I'm not buying steaks from Allen Meats despite the fact a working stiff like EL-bow Rush says they're the greatest thing going, but if the live local host is touting Bob's meat market in my locale, I am far more likely to trust his spot and check them out.

National voices talking national topics and selling national products does not reach me where I live. Why should I call 1-800 buy gold because some national yakker is on board when I can check out the hometown coin dealer and get the same probably for less?

as for......While you all get fired job after job he has actually managed to make a really great living doing what he does......

Who do you think made room for his act? SOME DAMN TALENTED PEOPLE WHO ENTERTAINED THE LOCAL MARKET... oh yeah, they were making a living as well.

Better still, in the local market how many of those dollars will he spend? The people he replaced on the air shopped at the local stores, spent their pay check in local restaurants, bought a car from a local dealer. Many of us schmoozed those same business to get them spending dollars on ads. Maybe we turned them over to an AE as a new account, or convinced a regular advertiser to add a remote. Call it an intangible value add for the station. Something no out of town syndie host can deliver.

So he gets 10 mil on 400 stations and Rush and Savage, and Beck, and the rest get how many more millions? At the expense of building quality local stations!

So you own a sports team. you can pay 10 mil a year and get a star, then fill in with low price average talents. What's that get? An overpaid STAR on a losing team looking to jump to the next gravytrain. Or, you can save the money you pay for one and spread it out and buy a team of better than average. NO STAR, but a great team.
That the local people will support.

Having Seacrest on your station doesn't build a great local team. You have a "STAR" and a bunch of board ops....

Having your whole day filled with syndies, is no different than having the Portland sports station carry the Yankees, Giant's Islanders, and Knicks, and spend the off time talking about them. You might be the station with "ALL THE BALLS", but there is no connection with the LOCAL AUDIENCE.

Unfortunately Radioperfesser is right in the fact that IT is a win for national chain radio......

"...Localism loses but this all about dollars...."

That is the issue that needs to be addressed.

BIGGER IS NOT BETTER for the industry as a whole.
only for individual companies like CC.

But, they make their $$$$ by sucking the local markets without returning anything. Maybe WAL*MART should get into radio as well?

Yes indeed Nation chain radio has no interest in individual local markets on a local level. There is the reason why market restrictions need to be implemented. Let's see how this syndie formula plays out if a company is limited to two stations in a market rather than 6. Want a 2 share if it's your only station? Hey, a six station cluster buy looks great when you add all the numbers together and post a combined 14. with that you can afford to run the Premiere stable across your cluster. A syndie station posting a 2 don't look so good as a stand alone.

Will never forget the day I moved to Portland back in 1991. Turned on the radio and Z-100 was broadcasting live from McCormick & Schmick's. The DJs were great! Instantly I got the vibe of Portland young people.

By simply turning on a radio I was in touch with the market!

I also felt a connection with Z-100 because my station on the East coast had exchanged a bit with the Z morning show months earlier. They sent us a reel just because we heard about it and asked.

As the months went by I saw Z-100 and many of the other stations and their DJs at various events around town. I felt I knew them.

So, I just think it is a real loss to not have that kind of personalized radio anymore. Not that something else can't replace it, everything must end. But overall I think Portland will lose something valuable.

It surprises me that a unique city like Portland would have a guy in Los Angeles hosting their work-time broadcast.

In my opinion... Clear Channel is DEATH to a radio station... I have seen several once market powerful stations fall on their A@@ after they take over... You would think they would learn somethin by now. Z-100 used to once be a GREAT station... now crap... KDUK in Eugene used to be that market's powerhouse (once employed there) Clear Channel bought them ran in into the ground and sold it to Bi-Coastal who I can only hope turns it around. I could keep going on and on but you get the point. Clear Channel is all about making money and they don't give a DAMN who they run over, destroy, or hurt in the process. Personally I hope they TANK someday.

RP has it figured. Seacrest is the Rush Limbaugh of music radio. This will work fine until the first tornado hits your community while he is interviewing some bimbo.

Great. Not a single local break before 1pm.

Anyone notice the airstaff at the new KKSN in Kansas City? Apparently, Entercom can clear a channel further than Clear Channel.

Mornings: Kidd Kraddick.
Middays: Jockless.
Afternoons: Ryan Seacrest.
Nights: Kim Iverson.

I just hope they are streaming so they can build a solid out of market listener base to support their out of market air staff.

I say good for Ryan Seacrest AND Rush. They have done very very well for themselves. I can only dream of that kind of success. Kraig Kitchin is a genius.
