"95.5fm" was the same format they're doing in Salem at KSND now. same pd, music and imaging. wonder if it will last longer than 15 months this time? |

97KYTE was once AC long enough for one book to come out. Sunny ran its current format up against an existing competitor and got nowhere, only to bring it back a few years later when there was a hole. The same station ran a satellite AC format called "StarStation" between "Brave New Radio" and Classical. I think KQFM/KKRZ's "building your radio station" phase lasted longer than any of these. Not a format but how long did KGW call itself "W62"? |

"Brave New Radio" and Classical were both on 910 KKSN. "Brave New Radio" was the format when they came back on the air in the spring of 1980. |

Thanks Paul! I couldn't figure out how to word it since the station recently changed call letters. Brave New Radio was a free-form album format. |

KAAR 1480 had a childrens format in the early 80's that replaced the oldies one, but it only lasted a few weeks! |

How many months did the Crusin' Oldies format last on 970? I thought that one was only on for a few months. |

Someone needs to research every format since it was 62 KGW... There have been so many tweaks and changes, I'm sure one is bound to find a short-lived format. |

KYXI ran B/EZ for many years, changed to AC for about 2, another decent run with All News and then to a short-lived Stardust nostalgia format that retained a morning newsblock before becoming Oldies KSGO. |

I remember a KGON competitor back in 1981 or so, I think they were KQFM. Can't even remember where on the dial it was, I just remember hearing it, thinking "Cool!" It seemed like 2 weeks later they'd just disappeared. |

KQFM went through a couple of rock incarnations. In '78 it dropped it's long-time easy listening format for a weird mix of oldies, disco, and album rock, nothing too hard-edged. Then they tightened up with an adult album rock format that was musically between KGON and KINK. That 2nd phase was short-lived. Then it became "Solid Gold FM 100," then "The Rose" (KKRZ), then "Z-100." |

When was KMJK's "soft rock" format? I think it was in 77-78 & it played quite a bit of Gordon Lightfoot & the Doors & the like. I liked that format the best of all. Why did it stop? |

Randy - your description of KB-101 sounds a lot like how I remember KZEL in '82-'83. |
|
Author: Randy_in_eugene Thursday, January 29, 2004 - 1:38 pm |

KZEL was playing a lot of harder-edged 60s rock, Animals, Stones, Hendrix, etc., while KB-101's mix included a wider variety of 50s & 60s "oldies." |

KXYQ switched to Earth 105 in early 1995, IIRC. Call letters changed to KKRH a few months later. They switched to Rosie/Rosey 105 on June 5th, 1998 (if not that day, then the day before). |

That's right...970 flipped to Modern AC at the same time as 107.5. Several weeks later, 970 changed to Country, briefly simulcasting KUPL-FM. Then came the Classic Country format. |

KLIQ's All News format was the first of its kind, predating Gordon McClendons experiments. I wouldn't count KKRZ on this list because only the call letters changed. It was a continuation of KQFM's AC format and the station was about to change hands. |
