Here's the alternate question: Which frequency (or frequencies) has had the fewest, or no call letter changes since sign-on?

Off the top, I can only think of a few:

KBPS
KKCW
KEX
KXL-AM
KINK
KMHD-FM
KPDQ A/F

Any others?

106.7 FM would have to be near the top of the "Most Changes" list. KQIV, KMJK, KMXI, KKJZ, KLTH, plus the classic rock, oldies & K-Bach formats (I remember the formats but not the calls for those formats).

Oldies was still KMXI, K-Bach was KKBK. If you're referring to Classic Rock as "Pure Rock 106.7 KMXI," that also answers that (I don't know firsthand of that though).

Didn't 970 change to KYTE twice? The possible second time was when the classical format moved from FM to AM.

It's no coincidence that the top two were both owned by Henry Broadcasting during the years when most of the changes took place.

1410 KPAM KLSC KPAM KCNR(?) KKUL KBNP
Was 1410 ever KCNR?

It was KMJK that was Classic Hits. KMXI was Hot AC at first, after changing from KMJK without changing format. KCNR was on 1410. I'm thinking that KBPS was the second set of calls for the Benson station. 970 was KYTE for quite a few years! They went from CHR, Country, AC, Music of Your Life followed by their own local version of Nostalgia and Classical, all with the same call letters. I'm surprised they didn't keep them for B/EZ, which was KESI. Craig, wasn't Portland's Home of Praise KKPZ for a short time between KPHP and KKSL when it moved to 1330?

KXL and KBPS were both on 1420 in 1939.
KOIN was on 940 in 1939.
KEX was on 1180 in 1939.
KALE was on 1300 in 1939.
The only AM which didnt move frequency and was on before 1939 was 620.

105.9 should get an honorable mention in this thread, since it was KXMX and KKLQ before sign-on, signed on as KBET-FM, changed to KSTE-FM, and is now KRVO. That's 5 call letters in 5 years (the station was authorized 1998)

Wasn't 92.3FM also known as KLIQ-FM before becoming KGON?

That's what I thought. I remembered a sticker, like the kind that used to be put on reel boxes containing dubs for other stations, that said KLIQ 1290kc and KLIQ 92.3 FM.

Outsider: I want that sticker!!

Semoochie: On KKPZ on 1290. If it happened, I don't have info. on it, I'm sure, but I'll check.

Randy: I want to check at home on the 1410 calls. My info. dosen't show call repeats in the intro. byline & I thought KYTE-FM was the only one of the two that repeated.

Craig,
I sure wish I had one of those stickers too! What I'd really like to have though, is the stations collection of comedy recordings!

Randy in Eugene,

I don't think 970 was ever Classical, you might be thinking of 910AM.

actually....970 was classical for a few months...After they started THE CITY on 101.1, the classical format moved to AM, then they went to easy listening on AM later...

1410 went from KPAM to KLSC and back to KPAM again, if that's what you mean.

Maybe I just assumed KYTE AM had more call letter changes since there were so many format changes. It was hard enough to keep track then, harder to remember now. Your info and semoochie's memory seem to coroborate, so I will now assume you are both correct.
