With PPM due to arrive soon, has anyone noticed any programming changes or tweaks on the local airwaves? Does anyone have predictions on what changes will come after PPM?

>>Does anyone have predictions on what changes will come after PPM?<<

Sure, I've got a few predictions.

There will be a different list of the top 10 stations than there is today.

Less people will be employed in PDX radio than are today.

And one specific board participant will still be wanting some AM station to go back to playing oldies.

How's that?

The only tweak I can think of is that K-Hits no longer plays its daily Beatles or '60s feature and Kool is less obvious about playing more '60s than '70s. I don't think there will be any changes related to the PPM until it begins to take effect in the fall.

106.7 will tweak even more..
Z100 will continue to kick Jammin's arse.
K103 will be strong.
Country will continue to be strong
Charlie will continue to play more 80's music.
101 will slip even farther into rock hell and Emerson's FM experiement will be short.
KGON??? Where are you???
95.5.... Earth to Derby!!!! When is the MSP experiment going to end???

I sincerely doubt that Clear Channel will kick its right side so the left side can win the race. Assuming everything stays in place, I expect Z100 to be the most mainstream station in the country and for Jammin' to stay as true to Hip-Hop as feasible.

BTW: KGON is doing fine. If anything, you've got to respect them for not messing with the brand. Not ever.

KGON is classic rock, and that's it, and don't you forget it. It will never be anything else.

Lots of people --young people, where I live now, really like KGON.

If I were them, I would run a round of TV / Billboard advertising. Just the thing to rope in some on the fence listeners, then call it good for another run.

....PPM? Huh?....

Parts per million. New way to judge audience based on the creators' years of water treatment management. Basically, For each million potential listeners, how many are listening and to what? At what level of listenership does the product become toxic and in need of treatment?

numb. listeners Qual ops/ CoOp
_______________ = ______________ -(V) >
= 3.8 +/-
Numb stations QROI-EXP? # St.iC

3.8< (v) = *TL threshold. below 3.5 requires format or programming adjustment per federal regulations effective 10/10/10

3.8 denotesminimum toxicity level of a particular station. can not be combined with other market stations as part of a cluster operation to raise level as part of the group.
v= Variable sliding scale based on amount of syndicated programming with each syndicated host assigned a negative variable value Affecting TL.

Examples:
Rush Limbaugh -4
John Tesh -2.2

For complete list of negative value syndicated broadcasters go to radio_theotherdeadmeat.gov

LOL!!

Well, I bet the PPM will show stations like KGON in a new light. One thing I like about them is I know EXACTLY what I'm getting when I choose to tune in. They've got years of that built in, while a lot of others really don't.

Just thought I would add that for the KGON people, working hard to get it done.

The Portable(or is it personal? I never can remember.)People Meter is a unit that is carried on the individual and keeps track of all radio listening that they happen to come across in their daily lives. When they recharge the unit, it automatically downloads this information to a central computer and in this way, people no longer have to remember what stations they listened to and for how much time. It's all there and not subject to debate. At least, that's how I understand it. Your mileage may vary. :-)

I don't know when this happened or how consistent it is but today, 1010 was playing a light, rhythmic AC with familiar songs but announced in spanish. I stumbled across it on my way to check out 910. I tuned in later and it was back to spanish.
