From the article:

"Doesn't ESPN Radio know where its bread is buttered? Sure they have their owned/operated stations in major markets and their satellite radio and dot-com connections, but now they're taking to the airwaves bashing the local stations that carry them as well as those that do not. The majority of the country hears ESPN Radio on stations that air them solely as filler between revenue-producing local shows, and now they're being blindsided by Bristol... Below is the e-mail sent to ESPN Radio affiliate stations today, along with the link to the TV and radio spots which ridicule local radio..."

Maybe they shouldn't bash local affiliates but when you have guys like Issac and Suke it's so easy!

Perhaps their number of outlets is down?

100K for syndicated programming?

Sure seems to me that 100K can be put to good use, right where the station lives.

>>Sure seems to me that 100K can be put to good use, right where the station lives.<<

But $100k would barely cover the net costs after sales for ONE local show after you pay for talent, producers, marketing, etc.

Paying ESPN $100K gets rights to the ENTIRE NETWORK 24/7.

Sure seems to me that it's a no-brainer what a cash-strapped operator's gonna choose. And who ISN'T cash-strapped these days?

Well, that does change things doesn't it?

Still, ESPN / Disney are known for their extremely high run rates, and they are aggressive about must carry bundling in the TV space at least.

Can somebody just carry a show or two, or is this another "must carry" deal, where Disney basically owns the whole affair?

Betcha, this is an all or nothing deal. "Access to the network 24/7" very likely means 100K or nothing, if you want ESPN. Typical Disney.

I've heard the ESPN Radio promos in question, and maybe they are more of a poke at Fox Sports Radio, which DOES sound much more ... sophomorish to me than ESPN Radio as far as national syndication.
