Correct me if this is just an urban legend, but I understand the guy who replace Cronauer on the air in Vietnam was Pat Sajack of "Wheel of Fortune" fame.

He was one of them and said something about reducing the length of the greeting.

I knew a guy in radio once who claimed to have met Cronauer when he as in the Army Radio Corps , he and some others spent a whole day with him so he said. Claims he was a total a$*h()le in person.

Also claimed that his politics were just to the left of Atilla the Hun !

I met Adrian Cronauer when he spoke at Linfield College in 1988. Actually helped run sound for his presentation. He had a bunch of drops from the movie and from his real shows on cassette tape we had to play during the presentation. I remember what a pain it was to cue the cassette to the right points and fire them right when he wanted...but we managed. This was not too long after Good Morning Vietnam came out (if memory serves...)

He made a point in the presentation to say he was no where near as funny as Robin Williams, and would have been court martialed if he'd done most of the things in the movie.

He was nice enough to come to the college radio station after the speech and cut a bunch of liners ("Goooood Mooooorrrnnniiinnnggggg Linfield!") He joked that most people thought he looked more like Judge Robert Bork (at that time a Supreme Court nominee) than Robin Williams.

"Also claimed his politics were to the left? of Attila the hun." One would hope so. Errr, you might want to pick another historical figure. Attila the Hun was so far to the right that he was off the scale. :-)

If Attila(He said I could call him by his first name. We're just like that.)is so far to the right, he's off the scale, he could be on the left because it's a circle.
