The ABC Radio Networks has changed its name to Citadel Media. The brands the company represents, which include ABC News Radio and ESPN Radio, are not affected. The change is likely fueled by the impending two-year anniversary of Citadel's purchase of the ABC Radio properties from Disney and contractual agreements surrounding the ABC name.

It's nothing shocking for Citadel Media President Jim Robinson who shares this brief history lesson, "We originated within the Radio Corporation of America and became NBC’s Blue Network. When the Blue Network split from NBC, the American Broadcasting Company was created. In the last 25 years, our radio network has been owned by Capital Cities, The Walt Disney Company and now Citadel Broadcasting."

Despite all that, Robinson says one thing has never changed, "One constant throughout this history of change has been the passion and dedication of our people to create innovative programming for our affiliates and advertising partners. That aspect of our company will never change."

The company's programming portfolio has grown over the last year with recent additions such as Governor Mike Huckabee, Perez Hilton, Joe Scarborough, Rick Dees and others. The company plans to continue syndicating programming across multiple formats including News/Talk, Hispanic and Urban.

The change also includes ABC Radio Networks en Español which now becomes Citadel Media en Español. Similar to the English-language division, the brands served by the division will remain the same including programming such as ESPN Deportes Radio and syndicated talent like María Celeste, Thalia and Maria Marín.

The change does not affect ABC NEWS RADIO, which is distributed by CITADEL MEDIA but remains owned by ABC and the WALT DISNEY CO. and is not changing its name.
