There aren't stupid questions... just stupid people.

There aren't stupid questions... just stupid people.

There aren't stupid questions... just stupid people.

Now that I've reminded myself of that, The Game is far and away better than anything Jammin put to air. Their at the end of the dial where they belong. Hopefully Urban radio will continue to disappear.

Jammin' isn't/wasn't Urban but rather, CHR/Rhythmic, which appeals to a mainstream audience. Urban's appeal is primarily to African Americans and in places where they are in abundance, the format can be very successful but not here.

I think that KBMS is a better example of an Urban format. As pointed out above, both the past and current "Jammin'" stations were targetted (very succesfully, I might add) to a "mainstream" audience. These stations took advantage of the fact that today, the appeal of contemporary R&B and hip-hop extends beyond Black youth. As far "the Game" is concerned, I would much rather be listening to shortwave radio.

The Fan will be bye bye by the end of the Trail Blazer season... not The Game.

The vast majority of my friends and people on Blazer, Ducks, and Beaver message boards like The Game better than The Fan so far.

I was all for The Game when it was announced. Now it's starting to annoy me.

I'm SO sick of their annoying voice-overs! I want to throw my radio out the window every time I hear that annoying little idiot say "so what the hell's a baldy anyways?" Get rid of that. Nobody wants to suffer through it every day.

I guess The Game just sounds over-produced now. At first it sounded really professional compared to The Fan but now the redundant "bumps" and voice overs-irritate me almost as much as "Prime Time" and "The Club" did.

Gavin and Chad are pros? Have you listened to them? The hip hop culture they try to convey sounds so forced it is almost awkward, and it turns off anyone with any class at all. They need to stop using adjectives like 'fresh' and 'hot' and actually talk like adults.

That time slot is absolutley horrible for them. Their chronies are still asleep, and they don't appeal to the 6-9am audience. If they were 7-10p they would be much more successful.

I don't get how they will generate any sales revenue. The game canned their brutal morning show less than 3 months in, showing they make bad decisions, and they replace that show with someone who has never proven to be able to generate ratings or revenue. If anything, at the fan, high paying clients would refuse to sign gavin up for endorsements because of his image.

The acronyms, attitude, and culture of that show alienate most of the listening audience. To use the defense that the people on sports message boards prefer the game to the fan is rediculous. Think about the people that actually write on those...and what percentage of listeners actually post there?

I'm not saying the fan is a great station because well....it isn't. But to say the game is, and that Gavin and Chad are pros is borderline insane. Can somebody please tell Chad that he is not Jim Rome, and he can take the knee pads off.

Class doesn't equal white an old. It means not sounding like a jacakss... which they both do. What percentage of listeners are the "urban and young" people that you speak of... and exactly how many advertisers want to sell to that demographic?

If you want to put it strictly in the dollars and cents angle, that show will not make any money.

They are unprofessional, uneducated, and it is painfully obvious.

Kenny Vance & Katy Brown's show was a Murrow Award winner compared to the current horrible morning show on The Game. McNamara & Derby have to be pulling their hair out trying to figure out what to do with the morning show now. With a strong lead host, Kenny Vance would be great as a co-host on the morning show.

I agree, I think Kenny would do just fine with the right co-host. You just can't make him the lead, and put him with someone like Katy. When he was in for canzano in the afternoons with Mike Barrett the last couple of weeks, he did a good job.

Nobody worth their weight in radio gold would be willing to come to this death trap of a sports market, with what they would be paid. And nobody is going to pay what it takes to bring in a solid host.

I understand that Gavin and Co. think they need to talk to the men 12 to 24 but Sports talk in the morning reaches a wide range demo. The morning isn't the best time to have this kind of experiment.

Mega-ditto that, Mc74.

The MSP has some issues but I haven't listened to Colin in weeks (and I listened to him religously pre-95.5). I'm back on Rome after giving that up when they delayed him on 1080. I'm a Rick Emerson Faithful so 11-3 is out of the question elsewhere. Love Canzano. Wheels is growing on me, especially with Kenny Vance on board. And the hidden gem on this station is JT The Brick--awesome show. Also caught much of the first Prep Report Friday 8-11, and though I don't know jack about HS football, it was very well done and overall a good listen. Sunday afternoon/evening a good listen as well, with Sports Business Radio 3-5 and Costas 5-7.

I've happened upon the 1080 afternoon show very briefly a few times in the past few months, and it is an immediate turnoff. Hearing the tired promos are a quicker turnoff. Seen them recently on Comcast a couple times and I am just so done with them.

Anyone who bangs on 95.5 The Game, fine. It's a matter of preference and choice. But having two sports choices in the market is awesome, and the local programming that 95.5 is offering should not be dismissed based solely on its rough edges. It is just really nice to have a local voice even if it's not as polished as a national sports network.

I'm with Mc and The Con. 95.5 The Game unless it's 11-3 and then it's Rick "Loud and Proud!" I could give two shits what people say about Canzano he keeps my ear unlike the AM side of sports talk. And Wheels... He is 100% professional!

Mc74 your right on the money about the MSP trying to be a 'clone' of Rome. It gets tiresome but to get a good picture we need to have at least another 6 months of ratings to gauge the market. If they end up keeping up what they had in July, then the management will be thinking what the hell they were thinking when they put K and K on the air. I get sick of the Blazer talk but that is mainly cause I can't stand the team.

As far as the PM show, I find myself going back to 1080 more often then not. If I want to hear Canzano talk about what he wrote in the paper for 3 hours, I just assume read the article and then listen to 1080.

By the way is Jennifermarlow permenantly banned? Should let 'em back. Curious to hear the opinion now.....

Canzano's show is very good. It's the best sports show in the market right now not even close. It's a can't miss. He gets big guests, the callers are all smart and Canzano breaks news and his stories are great I'm surprised at how good he's getting. The clown that was with canzano wasn't on yesterdays show. I think that was a one time thing. Canzano does a great job of interplaying with callers. The callers are coming there for his opinions its a great dynamic. I don't listen to the AM anymore either. It's not something I miss. I work nights so I don't get to hear the MSP often. Wheels is steady eddie and blazermanias like me love him. But Rome, JT and Canzano will make the Game winners.

The comparison is no longer relevant. I have been around radio for a long time. It is hard to compare the amount of local content and the FM Technology that The Game provides. Personally, I have not seen a radio station make this big of an impact in such a short period of time.

This is no longer about The Fan, this is about the impact on Portland radio in general. Great job 95.5!
