White House Official Apologizes for Air Force One Photo Op in New York City

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/04/27/white-house-official-apo logizes-air-force-photo-op-new-york-city/

I can understand how the folks in NY City might be jumpy!! I think it would make anybody in a major metro area to see this.

Yeah. Air Force one with fighter jets flying low. Geeze.

The thing is that I simply do not believe that this scenario, while in the planning stages, didn't include someone saying " Uhhh - wait a minute...if we do this..." You know? There is NO way someone didn't think of this possible outcome and yet just decided to do it anyway.

I would be SO pissed off right now if I had seen it. Admittedly, I do not know all the details. But whomever green-lighted this, in this manner, should be taken to task to a pretty big degree, in my opinion.

I'm going to guess that the person in charge resigns. Frankly, I would have zero problem with that.

CJ, I read in the article that they notified the local authorities.

How hard would it have been to slip the news media some advance warning so they could let people know.

It's kind of like Orson Well's War of the Worlds broadcast!!!!!

" CJ, I read in the article that they notified the local authorities."

I did too. But while watching FOX, they initially reported that local authorities were not notified.

So it seems the only real issue was that NYC officials were not properly informed (a legitimate gripe considering the confusion and fear it caused). There was also some outrage over the $328,835 the mission cost...but it seems that the "photoshoot" wasn't the mission's only purpose. It was also a training mission and would have had to have been flown anyway, photoshoot or not.

The White House staffer that organized the whole thing resigned which I think is for the best. Still, one mistake by Obama for 10 Bush made.

Anyone see Obama joking about this at the White House correspondents dinner? Something to the effect of his daughters were grounded for taking a joyride in Airforce One over Manhattan.
