Opening up the issue of prosecuting Bush administration officials for doing their jobs of protecting America will now dominate his administration. It will now overshadow everything he planned to do with health care, immigration and the like.

When this gets started in DC, it becomes cancer, consuming everything in it's path. It paralyzes Congress.

It moves us to a new era where the new administration attacks the individuals of the previous administration just because they have different political views. This is just like the banana republic dictators wearing mirrored sun glasses do things.

So, Obama may have just saved us from his headlong plunge into socialism by his own ineptness, but set the wheels in motion to make us just like one of those Latin American dictatorships. Destroy those with a different viewpoint from yours.

Who would have though the Savior would actually be the one to save us from himself.

There's more to it than just going after Bush Administration officials. It will drag Polosi and other Congressional Democrats into it who had been fully briefed and said nothing at the time.

The release of the interrogation memos and photos will drag down the CIA, will have a major negative effect on our security apparatus, and generally dominate Washington at a time when Obama would like to have his programs the focus of attention.

This was truly a major blunder by Obama.

I think it's actually Karl Rove's opinion Deane is posting.

Besides, it wasn't all that long ago, 8 years to be exact, that Congressional Republicans were all consumed with investigating Clinton administration officials over the pardoning of Marc Rich.

Funny, when it's your side being investigated there is a huge uproar.

If the previous Adminstration broke the law, which it appears they did, they should be held accountable. I don't see how this has any affect on Obama pushing forward with his agenda. America has a right to hold people accountable and should. Not doing so makes it appear that we are not a country of law. Just more sour grapes.

I love it when Deane get's specific.

But I like a good debate. So Deane's predictions are listed first. My predictions are followed in parantheses.

" Opening up the issue of prosecuting Bush administration officials will..."

#1. Dominate his administration. ( No it won't ).

#2. Overshadow everything he planned to do with health care, immigration. ( No it won't ).

#3. Paralyze Congress. ( No it won't ).

#4. Moves us to a new era where the new administration attacks the individuals of the previous administration just because they have different political views. ( No it doesn't ).

#5. Set the wheels in motion to make us just like one of those Latin American dictatorships. ( No it doesn't ).

#6. Destroy those with a different viewpoint from yours. ( No it won't ).

#7. Drag Polosi and other Congressional Democrats into it who had been fully briefed and said nothing at the time. ( No it won't ).

#8. Drag down the CIA. ( No it won't ).

#9. Have a major negative effect on our security apparatus. ( No it won't ).

#10. Dominate Washington. ( No it won't )

#11. Prove to truly be a major blunder by Obama. ( No it won't ).

Deane, I know I have only copied and pasted what you predict with such conviction. I just wanted to have a scorecard for everyone to keep track at home.

On with the game!

People are making way too big a deal about this potential issue, taking things much too literally, and not bothering to read between the lines or try to understand Obama's real motivation in all of this.

First of all, clearly the Obama administration does NOT want to prosecute anyone regarding torture-related issues unless forced to - and that was their position just a week ago. The sudden shift to "well, we might maybe just maybe prosecute high officials" seems to be a tip to pressure from liberal Democrats eager to see the Bush people hanged in effigy (or justice done, depending on how you look at it). I think Obama felt he had to at least offer that option to placate part of his base that is demanding it.

But that still doesn't mean ANYONE will actually be prosecuted - it just means Obama has not ruled it out, unlike what his administration was saying last week. The Obama Justice Department has already showed itself to be more pragmatic than idealistic. Look at how they handled the Ted Stevens case. Holder realized the case was badly screwed up, so despite having to give up prosecuting a long-time Democratic political enemy for real crimes, he dropped it. I think unless there is a flagrant violation of the law that the Obama Justice Department absolutely cannot ignore, that no Bush high official will be prosecuted for torture.

So Deane, you don't even believe that anyone will be prosecuted, right? I mean, just " opening up the issue " is what's going to cause all the chaos you've predicted.

Or are you noww saying it's the actual prosecution that will case all the bad stuff to happen? The prosecution that you don't even think will ever happen?

And what the Hell does George Soros have to do with any of this?

Anyone who believes George Soros "controls the Democratic Party" just isn't playing with a full deck. And to compare him to Dick Cheney - who, as an elected official and constitutional officer had enormous influence over Bush's presidency, particularly in the first 5-6 years - is not to understand what Cheney really did. I in no way think Cheney "controlled" Bush but Cheney was by far the most influential person in the Bush administration. Try reading the book "Angler" about him if you don't believe me. It's quite scary to me the kind of power Cheney once held.

So George Soros is controlling the Democratic party? This big and rich guy wants socialism? Or to be taxed to a greater degree than people less wealthy than him?

Why?

What does George Soros want? Since, you know, Republicans seem to see it so clearly - and I, apparently, don't. That should be an easy question to answer out loud.

No sauce Deane. Just the fact that the poobs had the House, the senate, and the Whitehouse, and squandered it. They could have pushed their mission statement... fiscal conservatism and responsibility. Instead they wasted the opportunity. After 9-11 the focus should have been ONLY AL Queda and his band of merry men. Box in Osama been Ramalamin' solve the problem and get out. If a few Pakistani feathers got ruffled, fix that after the fact. Iraq was a Texan revenge mission because Saddam did daddy wrong. Homeland security, with it's stupid shoe inspections of little old ladies, passport requirements for RETURNING US CITIZENS (Don't need one to get into Canada but you will coming back) and all these other little programs that inflated government and drained resources means they squandered their opportunity to grow the country. All the misdirected policies lead to people wanting a change.

America got the change, the dems hold all the cards and they have a game plan to take it in their direction. So unless they fall victim to infighting an petty squabbles, you will see a marked left turn over the next few years. If they turn too hard too fast, then the pendulum will swing the other way. Personally I don't like many of the plans and proposals simply because they will prove too expensive and unworkable long term.

The downside for the poobs is they DO NOT reach the young. The dems are on top of this and if you want to shape the world for the future, you teach the young your philosophy and they implement it.

The 60s were too radical to implement change at that time, because the depression era people were calling all the shots. The 60s people are now in the teaching seats, and they are in the position to push the philosophies that they developed. 50 years from now the rebellious youths of the next decade will take the country in another direction. Whatever this group feels will better the whole will become the driving force for 50 year beyond that.

Maybe by then the political parties will be the Agrarians and the Maufacturists, and the fringies will be the Personal Rightists and Socialist reformers........

Just my view. I'm sure some will see it, others won't. Might make sense to some, others will say it's horse feathers. We all have our own views, and it takes a real turn of events to make people change their views. You will NEVER get Vitalogy (sorry to single you out) to agree to any of your viewpoints. Nor will Vit change your stance.

The polarization will hurts the U.S. as a whole more than anything else, and it's mostly the petty stuff that riles every one. gun rights, gay marriage, abortion, carbon credit... and on and on. By the time you get to the bigger issues, people boil it down to one side is turning us into Communists and the other is taking us back to the times of serfs and land owners, and you are either for the whole plan or against it. NO ala carte allowed...... hence the squabbles and polariztion will continue!
