Nate Silver has broken the alternative budget proposal so the lay-conservative can fully understand its brilliance:

I am amazed that the liberals on this forum, and perhaps nationally, are so gung ho for huge spending and huge deficits.

All I've heard for years on this forum is how much spending George Bush was doing, something I would agree with. Now Obama comes along and makes Bush look like a miser and all that the liberals here can do is lay down, spread their legs and say sock it to me, more, more, more.

At the same time, if a Republican initiative to cut the spending shows up, it is ridiculed. Go figure.

Clearly, math is not your strong suit.

Bush invested huge sums in a war.
These investments were funneled to war machine manufacturers and service providers. They were mismanaged. Sure, there are support services needed in a war, even a misguided one.

Still, the money wasted in Iraq hasn't achieved domestic tranquility, world peace, or prevented other Bush failures at home from dragging the economy into a hole.

The proposed spending is just not comparable to the war spending. The facts of Bush's starvation of needed domestic improvements is a matter of record.

Sorry to refute your claim with facts. I know you fear them.

Bush may have invested (wasted) huge sums in a war, but it was a pittance compared to the current spending proposals. I don't care how white the horse Obama's galloping in on is, it's still a staggering amount of money compared to Bush's expenditures and nobody seems to care.

You can spend massive amounts on liberal do-good programs like saving a mouse nest in San Fransisco and funding the NEA, but it's still money and a lot of it.

What you have not yet caught on is that this is nothing but effective use of a crisis to get long desired liberal programs through. That's why it was rammed through without reading. Then, only 23% of it is slated for spending in 2009. No hurry here, is there. No immediate need for economic recovery.

While liberals sit around pissing and moaning about Bush, Obama and the Democrats in Congress are about to put the wheels in motion to bankrupt the country. And all you can say is "it sure feels good".

"this is nothing but effective use of a crisis to get long desired liberal programs through."

That's a partisan, inaccurate assessment. Remember, the budget contains less than 2% pork. While not kosher, trying to underscore the programs in the 2% is like arguing over a $.25 grommet on a $2,500 automobile repair.

"this is nothing but effective use of a crisis to get long desired liberal programs through."

Is that similar to the effective use of a crisis (9/11) to invade Iraq, a long desired Neo-Con plan?

I think it's totally funny that Republican Shock Doctrine has backfired huge!

Running the nation into the ground, then losing means a strong incentive for the people getting more of what they want in the fix.

Let us not forget: Obama is having to spend money to get us out of the ditch that Bush drove us in to. So feel free to complain about Obama's spending, but remember, he's doing it because he's fixing the mistakes YOUR GUY caused.

Those that broke the shit can't complain about how it's being fixed.

It doesn't make much difference who's mistakes he's spending in the name of. It is still massive wasteful spending that will bankrupt the country.

It is not registering that he's using the economic situation to get a bunch of liberal programs through that would otherwise be rejected, or throttled down to reality, even by his own party.

The other thing that is just floating past is that his income projections are more rosy than anyone else's. Sort of reminds me of the people who bought houses with escalating payments at a later time because their income with surely be higher.......wouldn't it?

"It is still massive wasteful spending that will bankrupt the country."

Whether or not it's wasteful, we'll have to wait and see. If it help our economy get back on track, it's not wasteful. What we do know is that if we did nothing, we'll be bankrupt for sure. I fall on the side of trying to fix the problem rather than continue to let things get worse, like your boy Bush did.

"he's using the economic situation to get a bunch of liberal programs through"

If building roads, bridges, and schools is considered a "liberal" program, then I'm all for it. And in fact, it's what the people of this country, who pay the taxes, voted for.

Like we've heard before: ELECTIONS MATTER.

The problem is that what you describe above is not what's happening. It's what you were told, but not what happened in Congress.

I wouldn't argue for a minute that we need something going right now to get the economy moving. But, 75% of the so called "stimulus" package occurs in future years. We need the stimulus now, if we need it.

There's no need for another list of all the wasteful and unnecessary application of the so called stimulus dollars, you've heard them all before. It's not the needed stimulus money that will wipe us out, it's all the rest.

Are you really ready to just sit back and let it go floating past with no thought as to what the bill of goods you're being sold really is?

Works for me. I'm over 50 and a million bucks invested properly would last me the rest of my life!

2. They all have to buy NEW American Cars.
This works for me too. The Tundra is built in CA by Americans. In my book that makes it an American truck.

3. They either buy a new house or pay off their existing Mortgage.
Again, works for me. I'd still have plenty left to invest after paying off my mortgage and buying that new Tundra!

Excellent plan.

Wait! There's been a slaughter here Morrison

It only works if it is tax free. Severance is income and taxable (I would have loved to put up a number, but it would vary depending on single, married, married with kids, etc).
