44 days until StarDate 05.08.09

Star Trek

I think this movie will draw a whole new generation into the Star Trek world. Directed by J.J. Abrams, this should be a good one!

As a fan of classic Trek, I am excited to see a new generation that isnt the Next Generation. :-)

agreed !

Star Trek Universe between the TV series "Enterprise" time period of 2151 to 2157. And 35 year old James T Kirk circa 2235, the begining of the original "Star Trek", TV series and the Constitution Class NCC 1701 Enterprise which had been around for some 11 years already. This ' Star Trek ' must have been set circa 2222, IMO. This based on my vast knowledge of relative dates in the star trek universe saga...Next Generation was set in the mid 2300s..once Data said that a Star Date in one particular episode was the Terran equivalent of October, 2364.

More realism and less of the technoid geekishness was the order of the day for both this movie ( evidently from the trailer ) and the Enterprise" TV series. I think its great ! And there will be a lot more action too....

This movie will hopefully spawn a new TV series with a young Kirk in the Captains Chair during his early missions.

Some interesting people in the cast:
Rachel Nichols
Christopher Doohan
With special note to:
Majel Barrett
and
Leonard Nimoy

They did a good job of casting the 'young Kirk " . He looks a lot like a young shatner ( see the twilight zones ) around the mouth and jaw.

I think the people they chose as Spock and Uhura look the most like they would have in their youth.

Spock looks realistic but the voice is all wrong, its too high. Leonard Nimoy's voice has a lot of bass in it. Ya, I know, men and women to some degree have lower key voices as they age, especially if they smoke and or drink.

I doubt whether that would have ever been a problem with a Vulcan in the 22nd or 23rd century, however.

I'm open minded about this, hoping they do it right. That part of the Trek story line has a lot of potential.

With the clowns killing off Atlantis too early, and BSG done, maybe the time for a new Trek is right.

Not wanting to bring up BSG, but I was sorely dissappointed with the last episode! The first hour was OK but the end sucked!

Looking forward to "caprica" though.

Now, back on "Trek".

I don't think I can remember the last movie I actually went into a theatre to see! Looking at those trailers, I feel drawn to see this one on the wide screen in a dark room!
