Craig-
My cousin is a geology professor and he said this is not uncommon out here in the west.

Chris: Did You talk to him tonight?

I just added another 3.1 Quake to the Sunday line-up above. What the hell is going on? I've monitored USGS every weekend for the past year and have never seen anything like this.

I wonder if it has anything to do with Mt. Redoubt's imminent eruption? Maybe it's part of the same techtonic plate system ... looks like that thing might go Mt. St. Helens on us anytime.

Just did a quick google on this. Earthquakes in the U.S. in the 3.0-4.0 range occur between 1300-1400 times on average per year.

Washington State averages over 1,000 quakes per year.

The sky is not falling, but the earth continues to move.

There is some debate about the effect of the phase of the moon and earthquakes on Earth, with the highest tidal forces being at "full moon" and "new moon" conditions. I have not seen definitive proof that more earthquakes occur during these alignments, but the debate continues. It has been reported that the surface of the Earth flexes about a foot with changing moon phase.

We are very close to "new moon" phase.

Actually, I would say, no we are not headed toward another spring break quake. Those smaller quakes are giving relief to the plates thus reducing the chance of a bigger quake.

No, I never meant to imply the sky was falling. It was however very weird how many 3.+ quakes the West was receiving so quickly. I believe it was a sign of presser mounting in "The Ring of Fire". Right after Mt. Redoubt erupted, the 3.+ quakes stopped and we haven't had another quake that size since! I believe there is some connection to what we experienced in the Western United States before Mt. Redoubt erupted.

I think Craig gets credit for calling this one. He saw the pattern and brought it to our attention. Mr. Adams had no doubt 'bout something like Redoubt. If only we could take him out to Earthquake Ethel's to celebrate -- our treat!

Craig-

I've been in contact with my geologist cousin, who is currently on a geological expedition in Costa Rica. He's says and I quote: "I really do not think there is a chance right now for a quake. The ideas on low end seismic are not tested."

Craig-
I'm not sure what he'd say at this point but like Mt. Redoubt I'm sure seismic activity will probably show the kind of readings that indicate an imminent eruption. Just my guess. I'll wait till my cousin gets back home to ask any further questions.
