Yesterday, they had a debate in Chicago. The audio is available at the following link. I've just stated listening - sounds like it is pretty good. Enjoy.

Medved is more of a man than Bill Orally. Al Franken has wanted to do a debate with him for years and bigmouth always runs the other way.

I listened to the whole debate last night. I thought they both made their points well. It wasn't until they made their final statements that Thom blew Medved away. Medved brought out the strawman "The Angry Left" and said that conservatives are happier that liberals. Pure BS. I know happiness has nothing to do with being Republican or Democratic; conservative or liberal.

Thom showed that he loves all Americans regardless of political strips. Good on Thom.

I've been in Thom's studio (teaching his wife/producer Louise digital video editing in Final Cut Pro) and found him to be a sincere and straightforward conversationalist off air. For those of us that have spent years in and around the broadcast community, the truest judge of character of a broadcaster is best revealed when there are no mics and cameras nor audience. To me, that's a whole heck of a lot more important than on air persona, which often has to be magnified to be successful at making a point, building an audience and keeping it. The reason I bother mentioning all this is that I find it near impossible to talk to and maintain friendships with old friends from my youth who have turned their steering wheel to the right. It consumes them on and off their job, they are consumed with various hatreds of government and minorities, and live in a world of deep denial. When it's someone you know, it's not as easy to blow it all off and move on like it is with those that are only a name, like Medvedsel, Rush, Hamnity, et. al.

I've met Thom and Louise a few times, too, though if asked Thom wouldn't know who I was. I stood in line behind them in 2005 when Al Gore was here speaking, and very few people knew him yet. I've also photographed Thom a few times at Powell's at his book signings (which are always mobbed full). He's actually a very good speaker in person, not just on the radio; he is very animated when he talks, using his hands a lot. I'll bet it would have been a fun debate to watch live.

LOL.

Nobody walks on water unless it is frozen. I don't always agree what Thom says, but I'll bet he is one of the most honest and ethical persons on the radio. Thom debates conservatives almost daily on his show; he refuses to talk or let any caller talk about the conseervative once they are no longer there "to defend themselves."

Last year Ed Schultz debated Medved as well. Paraphrasing, Ed said: "One thing I know, is that Obama will raise your taxes if you make over $250,000." On his show (which was still on KTRO) Medved played what Ed said, but left off the part I bolded above. Typical conservative talk radio crapola.
