Question: What do you call a rock station with little discernible concentration of testosterone.

Christ's sake! Is the manliest guy on the station the cross-dressing morning show producer or the afternoon chimp that has some strange fascination with make-believe fashion shoots? At least the chimp can talk about the NCAA tourney. Goddamn that station misses Bozyk.

Musically, Kufo is better than it ever has been.

Now, If we're talking air talent, thats a different story!

Musically i have my doubts too. Nickelback? Saving Abel? Hollywood Undead? There's some real lame stuff on that playlist right now. Looks like they're picking music from a chart somewhere. I think Portland is a little smarter than that.

I personally think that the talent on KUFO is better than the music? I listened all last week on from the debut of Rick Emerson. IMHO the on air talent is better than the playlist by far.

Gotta love Emerson taking shots at 94/7 for having djs with no last name.

Hey Rick, ever heard of Cort, fatboy, Buzz ect ect? Look in your own backyard sometime.

While I also agree that some of the new stuff they play is CRAP like Nickelback and Hollywood undead. All in all Kufo, is a great rock station, the variety is huge and it seems like they are playing a little of everything. I give them props for playing a huge variety of music.

Nickelback in my opinion is the biggest steaming pile of dog turd, I can't image Nickelback will stay in rotation for much longer on kufo. If you look at the playlists of the rock rock stations across the station, a lot of them are playing Hollywood Undead and Nickelback.

I understand the Nickelback song (#1 song on the Mainstream charts right now) that's being played right now because it has sexual innuendos and those songs always do good with the 12-25 crowd. But the Hollywood Undead thing mystifies me to no end. CRAP! Funny I couldn't find them on the charts not even in the Spincrease catagory. And from what Allaccess shows UFO is the ONLY station on Mainstream Rock palying them.... OUCH!

UFO is a crap shoot most of the times I find. But more times than not I turn it on to find the same Primus/RHCP/Disturbed and Buckcherry songs playing. UGH!

I think Trixter is Mad because Kufo is not playing "trixter," Cinderella, Brittny Fox, and Enuff Z nuff. Sorry Trix but your mullet warriors will never see the light of day. Just face it Tix you're a hater and would not be happy with KUFO unless they played "mullet warriors" 24/7. Sorry Tix but I don't think a "Faster Pussycat" reunion show will be coming to portland in the near future. So keep trying to grow that Mullet trix, keep using that Acquanet hair spray, but don't hold your breath. Your best bet is a Poison reunion tour.

-Trixter is still irritated because Warrant didn't make it into the Rock N Roll Hall of fame:-)

I don't think KUFO has ever really been a mainstream rock station. I don't know how it ends up affecting that chart. Definitely more active rock and leaning alternative, although that's a function of either a) KUFO having an AC PD or B) trying to squeeze nerk. I can't say that i agree with JT's assessment that it's o.k. to play garbage because other stations across the country are as well.
Pretty safe bet that marketing/sales is running that station anyway.

hey Mdrv600 "Garbage" is subjective. So I dont think your statement has any validity.

Hey I also can't stand Nickelback or Hollywood undead, but just because I hate those artists, doesn't mean that kufo shouldn't play them. Music is so subjective and its a lot harder for Rock stations to play new music because of the disdain for certain artists, Unlike Classic rock formats where they continue to play the same "Safe" overplayed rock records, mainstream rock stations actually have to take some risks and play the new stuff.

Obviously I have no idea what triggers it, but it seems like KUFO does like to fish every once in a while. I never read it as some desperate act. They always stay true to their core - but they find some new garnishments that depending on the time, or who has released a solo album, who is in the news, etc., can sound much more relevant than just looking at the playlist on the page.

It sounds pretty fresh the way that they incorporate some of the more indie-ish stuff sometimes. Maybe indie isn't the right word. But they pick somgs to put into roattion for a while that seems pretty smart sometimes.

I like it.

Well, JT, "crap" and "steaming pile of dog turd" sounds pretty subjective to me, so how about we just disregard anything you've said as well? (go ahead...page up...your words).
I think there are those among us who care about the quality of radio and music that can agree that taking risks and playing crap are mutually exclusive concepts. KUFO playing Hollywood Undead so they can present a show in town isn't exactly taking a risk. More like the "you scratch my back" b.s. politics that have put music radio in the position that it's in. There is better music out there, it's just too much work to find it. Far better to sit back and let the labels bring the station the stuff that they think will make them the most money in the shortest amount of time. Different strokes and all, but don't shit in my ear and tell me it's Zeppelin.

Im LOVING the fact that Kufo is playing The Black Keys! That group is awesome and getting very little airplay around the country. While Kufo does play a lot of the stuff the labels are telling them to play, I Know for a fact that they are also throwing in some new artists that the record labels are not promoting ie- The black keys, Parlor Mobb(another group that deserves airplay.

Sorry Trix, but sometimes the truth hurts. Sorry to be so abrasive about it but you just need to realize that "the mullet" is a thing of the past. And i'm sorry Trix but I don't think your beloved Britny Fox would "Test" very well. So Trix, Keep that cigarette lighter held high in the air as you sway back and forth to "Heaven" by Warrant. Yeah, I believe it was Limp Bizkit's 'Just Like this' or whatever it was. This was back in 1998. I think the flap was because the promo said "...brought to you by..." instead of "...sponsored by..."

Limp Bizkit was the song "Counterfeit" and had nothing to do with the wording. It was about the fact that they were sponsored spins of the song, pretty much like a 4 minute commercial. It was only in the overnights and never turned into policy of any sort, just an interesting experiment.
Credit where it's due, JT; also a fan of the black keys and parlor mob. I never said i hated the station, only that the present course is questionable with regard to being a male-oriented rock station.

How is that so Mrdv600? While they have added some groups like Silversun Pickups and Muse, which do have a huge female fanbase, their core artists are still predominantly male -oriented -Tool, Led Zeppelin. I think Kufo in general has become more of a mainstream rock station. If you look at most of the rock coming out today, it is very poppy.
I am in Kufo's Demo and I love the fact that they are playing stuff like The Black Keys. Infact I just bought their album. A few years back, kufo played nothing but the harder metal stuff like Korn, Godsmack, Tool. Those were not artists I liked or was into. They have now turned kufo into a station that is actully listenable and That I like. I'm very happy with the musical choices they are making, they are playing more of the music that I want to hear!
The best thing Cbs ever did was getting rid of Dave Numme. In my opinion Dave really lost touch with what his key Demo were listening to. He was very conservative mith the music and had a very small playlist of artists that were played non stop ie-korn, Tool. Again, this is coming from a guy who is in Kufo's demo.
Look at how liberal Kufo's playlist is today! For someone who listens to radio all day, it is very much appreciated!
