I expected another year or two as head coach. As announced in December, Chip Kelly will take over. UO is predicted to be near the top of the conference this year. Will this hurt?

Stepped down for one reason his wife colleen they split up several years ago now are back together,a large side note is the fact that Washington and syracuse made hard runs a offensive coordinator Chip Kelly So t okeep chip the head coach job was ofered when Bellotti stepped up to A.D >>>>Bellotti will wait till july to take AD job because he does not want blood on his hands when Kilkeny fires Ernie Kent i suspect when kent is fired Bellotti steps up to ad so he gets to announce new hire which will be Either Mark Few ,Bill Grier,Ken Bone and my personal favorite dark horse remember new Arena needs big splash P.J. Carlesimo most likely few gets gig

Ok... I think it's going to be interesting. I hadn't thought he would put it off to avoid Kent's firing (first I had heard of that). Kelly is going to be a fine coach however. There will be two positions left in his staff. Offensive coordinator and QBs Coach. Assuming he doesn't let anyone tinker with is innovative play scheme. Who should be the new QBs coach? IMO, it should be Bill Musgrave. The guy is a class act. He has well over ten years coaching mostly QBs but also some offensive playcalling as a coordinator.

The Ducks have an ok schedule next year. Plus USC at home. So it is possible that they could finish second or third without much of a problem.

"and my personal favorite dark horse remember new Arena needs big splash P.J. Carlesimo most likely few gets gig"

With the exception of a decent run at Seton Hall, what the hell has PJ Carlesimo done in coaching? Other than be at the receiving end of a choke-hold by Latrell Sprewell?

Oregon has a lot of $$ in the athletic kitty, to go after a solid coach with solid credentials. I don't know if Mark Few is quite the candidate he would have been if Kilkenny was staying put, because Few and Kilkenny are very close. Oregon could probably go after Ken Bone, another solid candidate who has niched himself quite a resume at Portland State, and for a lot cheaper than it would be to pry Few away from Gonzaga. Whoever it is, they will be a significant improvement over Ernie Kent ... who reminds me of Mike Price - nice guy, really good recruiter, but underwhelms consistently with the talent he has, pulling out a good run about once every 3-4 years in the tournament, just enough to save his job.

As an avid Duck fan, I'm very pleased to see Chip Kelly as head coach. UO couldn't have come out of this any better. Now if we can only get rid of Aliotti.

mc74 please elaborate ...."most likely few gets gig"considering how close he is to Kilkenny and the fact he has passed on other offers i truly believe this job is Fews if he desires it, wtih backing from Phil Knight this would be a excellent hire>As for Football Kelly will keep the ducks headed in right direction, as far as Musgrave he currently is the QB coach for the Atlanta Falcons and has done a great job with Matt Ryan, I think this would be steretch for the ducks to snare Musgrave >Personally Kelly remains his own offensive coordinator for at least this year

Musgrave madr 500,000 dollars as qb coach wit hwashiongton redskins several years ago .Iwould assume a raise was part of his promotion to offensive coordinator when he moved to Atlanta Falcons Lets see Grooming Matt Ryan working under Chip Kelly THis would be good hire but will not happen............Bev Smith fired yesterday Kent to fall soon
