Below is an excerpt from The New York Times regarding senior lawyers with the Bush Administration who helped craft the Bush Administration’s position on the issue of torture, most notably John Yoo. He was a principal in spelling out myriad legal justifications for the use of torture, among other things. Hopefully, John Yoo isn’t planning any trips to Europe because he might find himself in jail.

From The New York Times:

Even if they escape punishment at home, however, the lawyers could find themselves pursued in European countries that have laws allowing them to prosecute torture no matter where it occurred.

“I think people like Yoo will be taking their chances if they want to go to Europe for a very long time,” said Michael Ratner, president of the Center for Constitutional Rights, which has asked a German prosecutor to indict several Bush legal team members along with policy makers. The prosecutor declined, but the case is on appeal.

We're going to have to call out the Marines again to rescue our politicians when they travel to the wrong place.

Do you think the Marines ought to be in the business of protecting War Criminals?

The only War Criminals are those that exist in the minds of the radicals. And, that doesn't count for much.

Proud "radical" here!

They tortured people, broke international covenants, treaties and ignored core human rights advancement.

I would hope global pressure to knock that shit off keeps them right here at home. That's the best case scenario for them. Other soverign nations, seeing the crap we did, have every right to post up warrants on those clowns.

Remember our high ground conversation Deane? Boy, it sure looks to me like I nailed it back then. Maybe I'll visit the archives.

We went down this exact road. When the American Leadership changes, and takes the high ground, it would become painfully obvious how criminal and unethical and opportunistic the Republican Majority was.

Sucks doesn't it? Back then I said this dilemma is exactly why we don't do these kinds of things.

Most of world did a high five when Obama was elected. My friends overseas wrote me and said "thanks for getting it right!".

We have the high ground now, and to keep it means following through on things like this. There isn't a politician free pass on this stuff. There can't be, or it's a travesty of the law, if allowed to stand will set international relations back a long way.

You can call me radical all day long over this stuff. We don't torture people here. We have due process of law and we have checks and balances on raw power to prevent just the kinds of things those clowns are worried about big.

I really only care about America being protected. I could care less about "International". There isn't much evidence the Europeans know squat.

"There isn't much evidence the Europeans know squat."

Yeah, except for the fact that they've been at this whole "civilization" thing a heck of a lot longer than us. And we have the opportunity to learn from their experience, and mistakes.

...or not.

And I, for one, would like to travel beyond our borders without pretending to be Canadian.

I look forward to the world seeing us "get it right".

How about Roooooooosevelt and that Dresden firebombing incident? Truman giving the go Ahead to incinerate tens of thousands of Japanese civilians with those atom bomb thingies? General Curtis Lemay tageting cities whose industrial output had already been destroyed?

No war criminal tags when you are the victor. Un fortunate this nation has forgotten the lessons of warfare. If you decide to go to war, you go in to win. I guess WWII was the last one we were in it to win it.... Everything else has been a draw or withdrawl after certain goals were achieved. The out in Iraq was when SAY-DAM was grabbed. Game over. but we stayed past closing. Of course should have never gone, but maybe past history showed that Afghanistan was a losing proposition. Iraq looked to be an easy win and vengenace for Sadam trying to knock off daddy Booosh

Bin Laden is in relative luxury of safe houses on the Pakistan side. In Total War, you send the boys in till you get him, THEN you make your apologies. We won't do that either.

BOOSH is gone. Turn the page and moooooove on.
