I think I have just lost all respect for actor Will Ferell. He has put out some great fims in his career like Anchorman and Old School, but he has also put out some of the dumbest movies ever.

Last night I rented Step Brother, and boy was that a mistake. That movie was so ridiculously stupid I turned it off halfway. I don't mind bathroom humor but this goes beyond bathroom humor. In my opinion his days are limited. "Step Brother" is 3rd grade humor, its not funny its just stupid. Maybe he needs to leave the comedy to somebody else. He is a funny guy, as long as somebody writes the material for him. If you're thinking of renting Step brothers, don't bother it is STUPID!
Now don't get me wrong I think bathroom humor is funny to an extent but this movie goes too far. Penis jokes every 2 minuts gets old fast.
Come up with some new material Will!!!!

Does anyone else a agree with me??

Adam Sandler is another actor that continues to put out tiresome comedies that are not funny!

LOL -- I think his George W. Bush is priceless. And I did enjoy Anchorman -- thought it was kind of a funny movie. But overall, the movies he chooses for himself look plain awful. His range as an actor doesn’t seem all that broad – limited mainly to the very pedestrian vehicles he chooses for himself. I might be wrong, but he seems tied to low brow, cheap comedies that appeal to adolescent boys. I’m sure he makes tons of money and he is a bankable movie personality, but again, his range limits what he does on screen. He probably won’t be winning an Oscar anytime soon. Maybe a Razzie though.

The one thing that most bugs me about him is that he doesn’t sign autographs. I find stars that balk at signing autographs hypocrites (except maybe while eating dinner with family or friends). They want publicity and adulation but can't take the time to sign their name to a lousy piece of paper.

Adam Sandler – don’t get me started. He reminds me of a male version of Penny Marshall. I can't stand him either.

I know it's not a typical Will Ferrell movie, but I put Stranger Than Fiction in my top 5. I just loved that movie.

The people who he teams up with in his " funny " movies I rarely find to be all that funny. I don't think John C Reilly is funny. Danny McBride I'm kinda lukewarm on. Jon Heder is not funny to me.

Yet, I still like Will Ferrell. He CAN just make me laugh by looking at him sometimes. It makes no sense.

John C Reilly is great, Walk Hard was good but his best role was as Reed Rothchild In Boogie Nights.

Hey Tal have you seen the movie "stranger than Fiction".

That is the last Will Ferell movie put out that is actually watchable!
It doesn't resort to bathroom humor every 2 minutes. While its not a great movie, it is at least watchable.

And yes, Adam Sandler needs to go jump off a cliff because the world would be a much better place without his stupid ass movies. It ruely amazes me that actors like Will Ferrell or Adam Sandler don't broaden their range as actors. Try taking on some different roles as actors. You will become a much more respected actor for doing so. At least Jim Carey is smart enough to understand this and has actually played more "serious" roles in some of his more current films.
Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell are a one trick pony. They can only play one type of roll, they are not very diverse actors.

It is what it is. A paycheck. Sandler will pump out dumb movie after dumb movie cause the studio pays him alot to do so.

Every now and then he makes something like Punch Drunk Love which is fantastic.

What would you do if the studio offered you millions to make a dumb movie? Turn it down cause some guy on a message board in Oregon says he lost respect for ya?

mc74, you're turning into a bitter old man . . . and yes, awareness that a certain actor is starting to make crap just for the money will result in a reputation that may be hard to reverse, ie: Steven Segal.

Good Point Skeptical!
Steven Segal is the poster child for bad, crappy movies! Infact I havent seen him in a movie in a long time! Could it be nobody wants to work with him because he has never made a decent movie in his life?

Will Ferrell is a Saturday Night Live alumnus. That means his typical movie career trajectory is to make one or two good movies early on then a bunch of crappy ones. Look at everyone else who ever was on SNL. How many other SNL alumni have gone one to keep making great movies?

Look at Eddie Murphy.
Look at Steve Martin.
Look at Chevy Chase (when did he last work anyway?)
Look at Mike Myers.

SNL actors usually peak either on the show or just after it.

I'd say Will Ferrell is just keeping up the average for SNL alumni movie quality.

SNL alumni do better sticking with television. Look at Julia Louis-Dreyfuss. Look at Tina Fey.

Look at Chevy Chase (when did he last work anyway?)

I think Chevy Chase has retired from the Biz! While chevy did make plenty of crappy movies, I sure did Enjoy him in those nation Lampoons movies! Christmas vacation is a CLASSIC! Love that movie. In fact I'ts a tradition at my house to Watch National Lampoons Christmas Vacation during the holiday season.
I'm pretty sure that was directed by John Hughes. Speaking of John Hughes, what the heck ever happend to him?? He made some of the greatest kid movies ever like

Uncle Buck- John candy and John Hughes= GENIUS. Quite possibly the best John Candy movie EVER! I've seen that movie over 100 times and still laugh out loud at that movie.

One exception to the SNL movie rule would be Bill Murray. He started with sort-of dumb movies, then gradually moved to better and better quality stuff.

I cannot wait for Saturday nights HBO special Farewell America: One Last Night w/ George W Bush a one night one man Will Farrell project.

Step Brothers was not horrible or even horrendous. It is what it is. And really was there that much bathroom humor in that film?

Now Im curious to see how bad this movie actually is! My neighbor saw "step Brother" in the theater and said people were actually walking out of the movie.
I can't stand Will Ferell, all of his movies are terrible.

Beano, for once you and I see eye-to-eye on something. That is, barring the fact that, as I stand 6'8", people rarely (if ever) seem to see eye-to-eye with me on anything regardless. ;o)

Some friends of mine and I went to see "Walk Hard" a couple years ago. About a half-hour into it I told the guys I was going out to get more pop. Of course, they didn't realise that I was actually headed home.........

On the other hand, in hindsight I guess I shouldn't have set my expectations for the film as high as I had. I mean, it was "from the guy who brought us 'Superbad'" (another piece of absolute horseshit that I had the pleasure of walking out on.)

Can't stand him. How people consider Ferrell's films/TV shows to be "funny" is well beyond my comprehension.

(Thank the Gods for public TV............)

Watched David Zucker's American Carol over the weekend. Supposed to be a satirical comedy, but the problem is it isn't funny. Terrible movie, just awful. IMO. Airplane is 10X better.

I am a bit confused here, do you people consider Sandler and Ferrel great actors in the company of Jack Nicholson or Denzel Washington or Tom Hanks?

Well news for ya, they are not. They make stupid movies. Stop expecting them to be the next Cary Grant or James Stewart.

Dr_johnny_fever, there's no reason a Ferrell or a Sandler or anyone else from SNL couldn't be a world-class actor (though these two certainly aren't in that league). Tom Hanks is an interesting example, given that he started out in television and has hosted SNL many times. Hanks's first movies were in the same league as today's Will Ferrell movies. Anyone remember the early Tom Hanks movie "Bachelor Party?" It was a party/booze/sex romp film in the tradition of "Animal House." From that, who would have thought Tom Hanks would wind up as a top-tier actor?

Mc74 do you think an A list movie actor would turn down a roll because the movie sounds stupid to him?

Of Course he would! Not all actors are money Whores! Some can actually pick and choose what movies they want to be in.
By the way, I would like to nominate these Will Ferrell movies for a Razzie Award!

Blades of Glory
Step Brother
Semi-Pro
Talladega Nights- The ballad of Ricky Bobby

AWFUL!!!

He's not so hot as a human being either. He might make a great PD in todays world. Quite full of himself, and has great contempt for "you little people". You would have a hard time telling his acting abilities from his non acting persona.

In today's world where many of these bankable actors and actresses become accustomed to living the high life, they'll entertain just about any script to make a buck. If you’ve got homes in LA, NYC and some other locale, you’ve got to be able to pay for them. Plus they’ve got all their support staff on a payroll; not to mention agents, lawyers, managers. It’s not cheap being a star. Starring in routinely mediocre movies pays the bills. My favorite actress of the mediocre movie is Kate Hudson. She has one stellar performance (Almost Famous) and then it’s downhill from there.

But with Will Farrell, I’ve heard nothing but negative things about him and his contempt for the public. Eventually, that kind of crap catches up with you. He’s a bankable commodity in a certain genre of movie. Who is going to want to cast him in something serious? I’m sure he’ll stick with the low brow comedy genre that a producer could throw together on the back of an envelope.

One thing that works in favor of the mediocre star. If they do find themselves performing in a well received film that garners Oscar buzz, their previous performances are generally glossed over. This one standout performance receives copious amounts of positive attention. It’s as if their previous body of work existed in a vacuum.

Will Farrell writes and produces a lot of the movies he is in.

Here is a Brilliant idea, actually have a real director like the Farley Brothers write and direct a hilarious movie and have Will Farrell in it. That might actually be a great movie.
Look what the farley brothers did for Ben Stiller they made "something about Marry." That was a funny movie!!

I have always considered myself to be a Will Ferrell fan, although by reading this thread I can see that I actually haven't see many of his movies. I guess I've avoided seeing the ones that were obviously going to be stupid.
However, he played some wonderful characters on SNL and he was great in Elf.
As for Adam Sandler, one of his movies I haven't seen mentioned here is "Reign Over Me," with Don Cheadle. They both gave great performances.

That was my point earlier, Sandler and co pump out dumb movie after dumb movie cause it gets them paid then they make something like Reign over me or punch drunk love which are very good movies but flop at the box office.

Now dont blame them for making those type of movies you hate, its what people pay to see.
