Hi Bob, It looks like the onboard search engine has hit its limit as the database expands exponentially. I will have to explore ways of harnessing all the data into an easily searchable interface. That takes time and $$, sigh...

In the meantime, try searching for "subject line" rather than "text of messages" in the "look in" field of the search engine to get some results. Thanks for pointing out the problem.

Ed Evans was the first reporter Jim Howe hired at KEX when Jim was promoted to News Director (1968 I think). I first met Ed when he was the Capitol correspondant in Olympia for KIRO TV in Seattle when I was doing news at KITI in Centralia/Chehalis. Ed was with KIRO from 1980 to 1991. After that he went back to school and became a minister in the United Church of Christ. He retired in 2006.

Ed was, in my opinion, one of the finest reporters around. He helped me out a lot when I would travel up to Olympia for a story. He even let me work out of his cubbyhole of an office in the capitol.

Ed's an all around great guy. I used to watch Ed report the news and anchor on KOMO-TV in Seatle. I last spoke to Ed many years ago when he was a minister in Battle Ground (?) and one of his parrishoners had been the victim of legal payday loan thieves. He was bewildered, like everyone was, that these outfits had a license to steal. The laws in both states have since been tightened, but not tight enough.

Ed is a first cabin top notch journalist and broadcaster.

thank you both so much, this is very interesting to hear that he ended up in seattle for a while at KOMO where my dad also worked doing the Sonics,it's a bit surreal to listen to a then current newscast from 1965, thanks again for your help

Hey Brooks...are you sure Ed worked at KOMO? I knew him from KIRO and his facebook profile doesn't list KOMO.

Ed Evans mention in the Seattle P-I

"Among those let go was veteran reporter Ed Evans, who headed KIRO-TV's Olympia bureau for 8 1/2 years. Evans, who had been at KIRO for 11 years and also spent nine years reporting for KOMO-TV..."

I'm flattered that anyone can remember me from my KEX days (1965-68). What a fun thread of discussion. I have several fond memories of Bob Blackburn from those days. When Bob would do his Portland Beaver recreated baseball broadcasts (he was a master), my job was to shag wire copy from the teletype machine down the hallway, inning by inning. Brooks is correct, I worked at KOMO from 1968-77, then KHON in Honolulu from '77-80, then KIRO '80-91 before entering seminary to become a minister.

Regarding the March 1 post by Bob Blackburn, Jr., the "Davis" mentioned would have been Steve Davis. He left KEX for a TV job in San Francisco (I don't recall which station.)

Ed, thanks for your post! I certainly remember you from your Seattle TV days. You were one of the real reporters before fluff tookover. After you departed KIRO, they went downhill quickly with that wacky "out of the box" format, then lost their CBS affiliation, eventually got it back but never really have been the same since.

There's a new post at the top of the history section where someone is trying to find information about his grandfather, who had a radio show here in the 1940s. His name was Les Anderson.

Bill, you might be interested to know that the cubbyhole of an office we used for KIRO at the state capitol has been reclaimed by the state, and is now a public restroom. I don't know - somehow the term poetic justice comes to mind.

Jay continues to work as the South Sound photog for KIRO. He built a home out on Steamboat Island Rd. He works with Richard Thompson, the guy who replaced me in 1991.
