One sunny day an old man approached the White House from across
Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke
to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, 'I would like to go in and
meet with President Bush.'

The Marine looked at the man and said, 'Sir, Mr. Bush is no longer
president and no longer resides here.'

The old man said, 'Okay' and walked away.

The following day, the same man approached the White House and said
to the same Marine, 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.'

The Marine again told the man, 'Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no
longer president and no longer resides here.'

The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.

The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to
the very same U. S. Marine saying 'I would like to go in and meet with
President Bush.'

The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and
said, 'Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak
to Mr. Bush. I've told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer the president
and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?'

The old man looked at the Marine and said, 'Oh, I understand. I just love
hearing it.'

The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, 'See you tomorrow.'

Andy, that joke first came out after Clinton left office. (and it was a lot more fitting then)

Geez, you'd think the libs could at least come up with something original!

In response to the title of this thread; and that city on the east coast has a whole new crew of idiots Idiots. I had to capitalize "Idiots" to at least show lord Obama some respect. After all, the idiots (not capitalized) in the US elected him the leader of the free world.

"Andy, that joke first came out after Clinton left office. (and it was a lot more fitting then)"

I know. However, I feel the exact opposite, i.e. it is way more appropriate now. In fact, Bush's popularity ratings clearly show you are in the minority on this point.

"Geez, you'd think the libs could at least come up with something original! "

They have. It's called "Let Freedom Ring (Again)" which is something the Bush administration reinterpreted as "shock and awe."

"In response to the title of this thread; ... After all, the idiots (not capitalized) in the US elected him the leader of the free world."

You cannot escape the fact that Obama's overwhelming victory makes Bush's first term appointment and second term razor thin victory look very non mandate oriented.

Clearly your posts in the last few weeks have shown your disappointment with the outcome of the election. We can all see that. Your complaining is welcome, however, because it shows the rest of us just what the shrinking minority of misguided conservatives think like.

Another fact you can't escape is that referring to the current majority of voters as idiots just doesn't ring true with the facts.
The only idiots are those that cling to the antique notion that government causes all the problems and that the markets should run free and America should adhere to a foreign policy conceived by deceit of the public.

Another fact you keep ignoring is that the anti-Bush rhetoric is founded in the facts of 8 years of his abuse of the system. Your whining is founded only in your own fears and lack of understanding of what is fact and what is fiction, or perhaps your decision to just ignore reality. Not uncommon for guys that bathe in RF every day. I know. Fortunately, for me, the result is that I no longer can tolerate stupidity like I could when I was less radiated.

Believe me; I'm not thrilled with everything Bush did. He, IMHO, had some good points and plenty of bad points.

It's not an antique notion that government causes all the problems, and they don't. Just 75% of them.

Greedy pigs like Bernie Ebbers, Bernie Madoff and the ilk that ran the investment houses that screwed everybody over make up the other 25%.

It’s all the socialist programs that I don't want the government involved in and forcing down our throats.

I want them to provide the necessities that they were originally set up to do then stay the hell out of my life.

I don't want the government telling me what I can or can't eat, that I have to wear my seat belt, that the allergy medicine I used to be able to buy over the counter I now have to have a prescription for, all that kind of crap of them sticking their nose in where it doesn't belong.

They need to cut the government by at least 50%. Let those people go find jobs where they have to work instead of foisting their crap on the public.

On the lighter side, I'm with you on not tolerating stupidity! I can tolerate lots of things, but stupid isn't one of them!

Two good sayings that I use often; 1 - Stupidity should be painful and 2 - Stupidity kills...Just not often enough.

OK. That's mostly reasonable although it mixes federal and state considerations.

The largest exception being the seat-belt mandate. We all pay for those who do not wear seat belts. The higher health care and insurance costs that result from unbelted drivers and passengers involved in crashes get passed along to everyone. For example, the costs of hospital care for an unbelted driver are 50 percent higher than those for a driver who was wearing a safety belt. Society bears 85 percent of those costs, not the individuals involved.

The fine line between rights and privileges discussion is best left for another time. I personally don't feel a seat belt law is any different than speed limits and stop signs. It's just another rule of the road designed to minimize the cost of chaos.

Andy, I'm not saying that I'm against seat belts, I wear mine all the time (although I do put the shoulder belt part behind the seat), what I'm saying is that I don't think the government should mandate wearing them, or at least not give tickets for not wearing them.

Look at CO, IL, WI and a bunch of other states, you'll get a ticket for not wearing your seat belt in those states but you can ride a motorcycle without a helmet.

Makes no sense.

We digress!

I don't think Exxon will like cows on his ranch messing up all of their oil rigs George let them put there! Nothing like having big oil in your pack pocket and back yard!
