Why does the FCC bother to regulate content? Particular words are only profane because somehow we as a society have decided that polite people don't use them. If differentiation is desirable, won't the market sort it out so that there is one or two stations that play things uncensored and the rest don't play music or talk that has to be censored?

Would opening up terrestrial radio to true free speech make the market work better?

I am not a radio person but I am curious about what professionals in this field think.
