"In 1996, taped to the wall of my now defunct record label spinART Records' 800 square-foot, four-Ikea-desk-loaded-with-unsold-CD-and-vinyl office was a $1 check from MTV. I fought hard for that stupid check...

I still don't know why they even bothered saying they would pay a dollar. It really pissed me off. I had fronted money and worked my heart out along with the band to promote, market, manufacture and release their album and along comes a multi-national billion dollar media corporation and demands to be able to use the music for a stinking dollar..."

Jeff Price in the Huffington Post.

"Sales of the vinyl single are now back up above the million mark in the UK..."

The BBC reports on the longevity and recent revival of the seven inch single in Britain. In March, the format will be celebrating 60 years of bite-sized turntable joy.

John Lennon once said he collected mainly 45s because he didn't like listening to a whole album of just one artist in one sitting, or words to that effect. One way the music companies have shot themselves in the foot has been in the de-emphasis on singles in favor of expecting people to pay $18, often to get just one or two songs.

I'd still rather buy a slightly crackly, noisy 45 than a "file" comparable to a lifeless, digitally squeezed-down wet noodle.

Yeah, me too.

The idea that we are still finding a physical record valuable in some way, just makes me happy.

Analog has it's perks!

Although I've thinned out my collection of 45s over the years, as I didn't need six copies of the same record, I'll never get rid of my 45s. I think I'm down to about 5,000 of them.

There's something nostalgic about putting a needle on the vinyl and hearing that "ssssssss", before the song starts. I also don't mind hearing the various "pops" & "hisses" of well played vinyl, especially on those records that have been mine since day one! Those records sound like that because I obviously liked the song and played it, ALOT, back in the day!

Anyone remember the first 45 you bought?

"Paper Tiger" -- Sue Thompson

If I recall correctly, I found it at Springer's.

My first 45 was either "Puff The Magic Dragon" or "Henry The VIII" by Hermans Hermits

I still have them.
