Olson Electronics -- This was a chain, similar to Radio Shack. It went out of business sometime around 1983.

What was the name of that big electronics place across from "Sears"? It was the only place that had a 30" EV speaker on display.

You've got to be at least 35 and lived in the Portland-Vancouver area for at least 20 years to know what the heck I'm talking about.

Organ Grinder Pizza. How many incarnations has that building on 82nd gone through since? I was crushed when I moved back to Portland in 1997 and found it gone, when I was living there as a kid we used to ALWAYS go and it was ALWAYS packed!

Ahhh Binions!!

Good Poker Games there. And yes, a dunkin doughnuts. Fremont Street is my favorite place in Vegas. Nice, low key, outdoor concerts, and cheap eats late at night!

Brianl, me too! It's never been a success after Organ Grinder. :-(

Yeah, Herfy's. Wasn't bad. There was also Roy Rogers Hamburger place on Sandy Blvd near 15th.

Flakey Jakes became Fuddruckers and there are still a few around, one in Tualatin......unless it disappeared in the last year.

There are still a few Sizzler places around. I think one is still on 82nd and there is one in Gresham across from the high school, next door to the Taco Bell, which is next to the now defunct Izzy's.

Fremont Street in Vegas. There is a shop about 1/2 block off Fremont called the "Jerky Place". I have never seen so much and so many varieties of Jerky in my life.

"What was the name of that big electronics place across from "Sears"?"

I can't think of the name right now, either. It had the same name as a company that made electronic kits and they carried them. It was not Heathkit. There was a Heathkit store in Vancouver next to Fred Meyer on Mill Plain and Chkalov.

Hey, KQ4,
You beat me to it. I remembered as I was driving home from work and came in the house and you beat me to it.......
Even if I hadn't stayed and talked to Gary, you would have beat me to it......
Wasson's Lafayette Radio for sure.
Do you remember where it was before they moved there? They started somewhere else...

Yes, Wasson's, I believe that was name. If I recall, after they closed, there was a smaller electronics place a block south of Wasson's that may have been called something else, it was about 1/4 the size. Anyone remember?

I've no clue to where Wasson's was before the Sears location. I'm not that old! :-)

(Wasn't that in the section they tore down?)

Kopper Kitchen.

There was one in the Jantzen Beach Mall -- in the section not torn down (yet!). I can still hear that green restaurant assistant manager saying "I got a stack of applications this high for your job in my office!"
