KCMD/Portland Tries Radio Drama Series
CBS Talk KCMD-A (AM 970, THE TALKER)/PORTLAND will air some locally-produced live radio drama on SUNDAY evening at 6p ET with the first installment of CBS RADIO THEATER. The hour-long show will include two 25-minute radio plays, each the first chapter in an ongoing, serialized story, to be continued in subsequent weeks.

The plays, written by local filmmaker/author AARON DURAND and directed by photographer/filmmaker JAYESUNN KRUMP, include sci-fi serial "A.Z. (After Zombies)" and 40’s adventure serial "The Crimson Mist." Sister Rock KUFO PERSONALITIES BOBBY "FATBOY" ROBERTS and CORT WEBBER are among the actors involved.

KCMD PD RICK EMERSON said, "Radio is a kind of magic; a blank slate onto which you can project anything your imagination can conjure. It’s time to re-create the edge-of-your seat excitement that really only comes from live, locally-created entertainment."

Hmmm... I've actually wondered if this would work in this day and age. It'll be an interesting expiriment. Is KCMD streaming? I'd like to listen to it, but I'm not in Portland.

Nice!!

Thanks for the heads up. They really, really need to consider a subscription podcast of this, along with free access to archives.

With serials, there is a very strong incentive to plug away on them week after week. Today, that's tough because people are busy. Enter the Internet! Perfect solution!

(I know live and local is the passion and that it gives some spark to the actors, but the edge of the seat can survive a trip through time and space too. Just saying, don't rule out re-purposing the broadcasts at some later date.)

I've got longer drives on occasion. These things would be perfect, and I know I won't always be around on Sunday to record them.

Another good idea would be to just e-mail audio, or links to it every week. Nice way to get some names to pitch future productions and promos too, and let people snag the shows they missed.

Wonder how much audio fits into 10Mb? Most e-mail systems will allow that...

If you get a geek to scramble the links, then provide access linked to the e-mails, you get some data on who actually reads and who doesn't and which shows were of interest to whom.

Hope this goes well. I like this kind of production.

Break a leg fats! This is right up your alley.

I heard Emerson announcing the weekend radio drama last week, and then I MISSED IT!! :-( I screwed up and thought that it was on Saturday night instead of Sunday.

There is this Sunday, and I'll be tuned in for sure.

See? There's a reason for the archives and such right there!

Huh? Local Portland live drama at 6PM ET. Why would they say it that way? Why not just say at 3PM

Doesn't Fatboy Roberts and Cort already do this on KUFO in a shorter form with their Boy President serial comedy?

Everything old is new again...

Except fully staffed live local radio stations!

(Oh no, not that tired lame old one note lament again)

Rush Limbaugh needs a raise, and a Christmas bonus as well.

Maybe it could play some old radio shows from the 40's. that would be unique.

"This is not at 3pm. It is at 6pm PST."
That is not what it said. It said 3P ET. If it is locally produced and done, Why would they give it as Eastern Time?

I have no idea. I just know what time it correctly is. I don't know where the original time in the post above came from.

I highly doubt that's from the PR desk at AM 970.

I just know the play is right before Musicology.

*sigh* I heard the announcement from Timmy himself on the last day. He's been gone for a few weeks now.
Kristen Bowie and Adam (I forget his last name) now run the show.

The 2 episodes aired on Sunday night were great. I'm partial to A.Z., the zombie serial, but both were well done and really entertaining.

I agree. A.Z. was the better of the two, but both were entertaining. Some of the individual performances left something to be desired, but it's been a long time since anyone has tried something like this, so there's got to be a learning curve. I think it'll continue to get better.

You missed it! It was on Sunday evening from 6-7 PM. It was, indeed, live; I heard the announcer and some of the actors slip up on their lines several times.

Was the CBS Radio Theater a one-time-only thing? It is not on right now, and the 970 Website only lists the Dec. 7 airing.

Could be due to the storm and icy driving conditions. It is a live show. More than likely, they're volunteering their time.
