“The bargain that any president strikes with is, you give me this office and in turn my, fears, doubts, insecurities, foibles, need for sleep, family life, vacations, leisure is gone,” Obama said. “I am giving myself to you.”

I don't begrudge a President taking vacations. He's under a lot of pressure 24/7 and entitled to some relaxing time.
What I find distasteful is that he got elected making promises that he now ignores as if he had never made them. Getting elected under false pretenses is despicable. Yes, it makes him a liar.
The whole campaign was based on telling people things he thought they wanted to hear whether he planned to do them or not.Posted on August 12, 2014 - 09:22 AM #
You must have been equally repulsed by George W. Bush's campaign rhetoric.Posted on August 12, 2014 - 09:36 AM #
Nope, Bush's wasn't a deliberate known distortion of reality.
Presidents don't always get everything accomplished they intend to even though they try. That includes Obama.
Obama promised no vacations. He has made a conscious choice to disregard his promise to the American people and take expensive vacations while Rome burns.Posted on August 12, 2014 - 09:42 AM #
"The whole campaign was based on telling people things he thought they wanted to hear whether he planned to do them or not."
Very true. However that is the mantra for ALL politicians.Posted on August 12, 2014 - 09:45 AM #
Newsflash! 8O 8O 8O Politician fails to keep campaign promises! Film at 11!
I'm still wondering what you O'Haters are hoping for as an end game here. What are you expecting to happen with postings/threads like these?Posted on August 12, 2014 - 09:45 AM #
Deane doesn't care about broken campaign promises; he only hates Obama because he's a Democrat. It's OK for a Republican to do exactly the same thing.
Was it OK for Reagan to triple the national debt after promising to balance the budget in his first term? (Reagan made no attempt to do so.)
Was it OK for Reagan to negotiate with terrorists, after promising not to do so?
Was it OK for George H. W. Bush to raise taxes after promising...well, you remember that line...
Was it OK for George W. Bush to spend years in Afghanistan and Iraq after promising not to "nation build" during his 2000 campaign? How about Bush's promise to regulate CO2 emissions and then breaking that promise overtly in 2001?
All presidents break campaign promises and "tell people what they want to hear" when running for the office. It's part of the game. Deane's just crowing because Obama is a Democrat.
Obama has actually kept a lot of his campaign promises. He signed a monumental health care law. He re-regulated the Wall Street banks to some degree (they HATE the regulation, so maybe he's doing something right there). He is moving on reducing CO2 emissions.
GITMO? Still open, because Congress refuses to allow closing it...Posted on August 12, 2014 - 09:46 AM #
"He signed a monumental health care law."
He signed a monumental POS health care law.
Fixed it.Posted on August 12, 2014 - 09:49 AM #
Way to jump up and be responsive to the post, Sky. Care to actually address anything that Andrew had to say, rather than just continuing to pitch shit on Obama?Posted on August 12, 2014 - 09:51 AM #
I must have missed that supposed "campaign promise", as this, honestly, is the first I've heard of such a pledge by Obama. I certainly didn't vote for him thinking he'd never take a vacation.
Besides, if the following is what the right-tards are thinking is a campaign promise, then its clear they are running out of things to tweak Obama's presidency about.
The video features then-Sen. Obama discussing his book “The Audacity Of Hope” with New York Times columnist Bob Herbert in 2008.
The future president was talking about how those running for president need to be prepared to “give their life to it.”
“The bargain that any president strikes with is, you give me this office and in turn my, fears, doubts, insecurities, foibles, need for sleep, family life, vacations, leisure is gone,” Obama said. “I am giving myself to you.”Posted on August 12, 2014 - 09:58 AM #
