I agree with you Paul. But in today's world of a 24 hour news cycle. With people on both sides of the political spectrum talk all the time about how bad this candidate for President is. I think the day of someone losing a Presidential election and coming back four or eight years later as a party's candidate for President is over. Nixon might be the last one to do it.
Say if Barrack Obama lost in 2008. And in 2012 he was again the Democrats candidate for President. I can hear Rush, Sean, Lars, Mark, and all the others on radio telling their listeners how the Democrats are not only out of ideas. But they have to bring out the loser of the last election as their candidate. Until the election was over. They would keep repeating how the candidate is a loser and why should we vote for the loser again.
