If I was looking for a toy to play with and could afford it, I'd rather have the old KLIQ license on 1290. Expanded band AM stations have been a dismal failure. The AM band isn't thriving but at least it has a heartbeat and a better footprint than an LPFM.

Oh, if there were more permissive decency rules...

Put some real talk on that thing and see what happens!

Note that Radio Disney is not going away. Disney is just exiting the business of owning AM signals (with the exception of its flagship station).

The XRAY people could really use the 1640 signal (if they could afford it). Or, KBPS could move there for improved nighttime coverage. I know that neither of these is that likely.

What will be the fate of 1640?

XRAY was the first group I thought of with this announcement. Unfortunately though, they've probably already blown most of their Kickstarter cash...

They don't need it if they finalize the 107.1 translator lease. I haven't heard if that was finalized but they originally said if it does get done it would change late summer. Haven't been listening recently.

If you had deep enough pockets, it might be fun to use that signal to emulate KUIK, but for the Eastside. Make your "market" the 205 corridor from Wilsonville to the Columbia, and sell, sell, sell on relationships and results.

Then again, doing that with an FM translator would be ideal.

"What's Radio?" asks their target market.

My prediction: There will be another thread started on pdxradio on this subject because the poster did not mention "Disney" in the header. I almost posted it myself and maybe I should have, so future readers would understand what this thread was about.
