Translator K279BO 103.7 Portland is on the air with a new country format called "Tailgate Country". It is operated by iHeartMedia, and is rebroadcasting KFBW-HD3. The translator is owned by EMF (Klove, Air1) and was formerly on 96.3 in Portland.

I'm sorry. I guess I could just listen to it but are you saying it's a new Country station because it wasn't there before or that its format is "New Country"? The name almost sounds like it could be "Classic Country". It should be noted that KFBW-HD3 wasn't there yesterday either.

Both. The station is new, and they are airing a Hot Country format (as in New Country music)

OK, I listened. They're promoting the fact that they don't have any commercials! This seems like a strange business model. It could shave a point from the other Country stations and improve IHeart's overall performance but it seems odd not to have a direct benefit i.e. they can't sell it!

102.3 also boasted no commercials when it first signed on. I think that this is a gimmick.

According to the Ibiquity contracts, if you run commercials on an HD2 or HD3 channel, they get a portion of the income. For Having the HD1 signal they just charge a flat, one time licensing fee.

Probably just trying to pull numbers away from KUPL and KWJJ. If they can reduce competitions overall ratings, in effect it increases their market share.

Where is the website for the new 103.7?

I listened to 103.7 going out to Hillsboro today. Another station started cutting in at about downtown Hillsboro. On my way back to Aloha, I listened to it on the HD-3 signal. It kept cutting out all the way back home. Either they are having troubles on the HD side or it is real low power.

The other station is probably KNRQ. See my entry in "Towers & Such".
