--------------------Addition Of WCAR/Detroit Puts NBC Sports Radio At 284 Affiliates--------------------

The addition of BIRACH Sports WCAR-A (NBC SPORTS RADIO 1090)/DETROIT as an affiliate of NBC SPORTS RADIO (NET NEWS 7/15) has pushed the network's lineup to 284 affiliates. As ALL ACCESS previously reported, WCAR added NBC SPORTS RADIO and rebranded on JULY 15th after losing the ESPN RADIO affiliation, which market rumors have possibly heading to crosstown GREATER MEDIA AC WMGC (TODAY'S 105.1).

“It’s an exciting time for us as we rebrand to NBC Sports Radio – in fact we have already received tremendous feedback from our listeners and the reaction on social media has been terrific,” said WCAR PD MARK WILSON. “It is a great addition for DETROIT, which is home to some of the most passionate sports fans in the country.”

“As we near a major milestone, adding our 300th station to NBC SPORTS RADIO, we couldn’t be happier to be so tightly affiliated in such an important market like DEROIT,” said DIAL GLOBAL EVP/GM CHRIS CORCORAN. “We look forward to bringing amazing, full-throttle sports talk to the MOTOR CITY."

“A sports-rabid town like DETROIT deserves the very best in sports radio,” said NBC SPORS VENTURES SVP ROB SIMMELJKAER. “We think our lineup will be a great fit.”

Boy is there some tremendous spin in THIS story. Hoo boy! WCAR is in the Detroit market, yes, but at 250 watts directional daytime from the edge of town, and 500 watts night time with a very directional pattern WAYYYY outta town, I am sure that ESPN just hates to lose this one to NBC! (But at least they get a little consolation in gaining a 50KW FM instead.)

    Har har!

I was going to say that I had no idea that there was a 1090 in Detroit! In fact, I was thinking that there were only six AMs licensed there.

------------------------------NBC Sports Radio Reaches 300-Affiliate Level------------------------------

DIAL GLOBAL's NBC SPORTS RADIO has passed the 300 affiliate mark, hitting 303 with the addition of new affiliates including TYLER MEDIA Sports KRXO/OKLAHOMA CITY, ENTERCOM Sports WDMT (THE SPORTS HUB 102.3)/SCRANTON-WILKES-BARRE, and TOWNSQUARE Sports KROD-A/EL PASO.

“Signing more than 300 affiliates so quickly is a true testament to the mass appeal of our talent and programming, creativity of our producers, and hard work of our exceptional sales and affiliate teams,” said CHRIS CORCORAN, EVP/GM, DIAL GLOBAL SPORTS. “We are especially honored to partner with such great radio stations across the country as we work together to connect avid sports fans, consumers, and advertisers. We continue to be motivated to reach more audiences by the amazing feedback we regularly receive from our local station owners, program directors and listeners.”

“Reaching 300 stations in less than a year’s time is a remarkable accomplishment for NBC SPORTS RADIO,” said ROB SIMMELJKAER, SVP, NBC SPORTS VENTURES. “It’s a tribute to the hard work of the talent, producers, executives and everyone at DIAL GLOBAL who is working on growing this brand. Although we are well ahead of schedule, we are not satisfied and have a lot more growth ahead of us.”

“It has been incredible to watch the rapid growth of NBC SPORTS RADIO, and it could not have been reached without the hard work of CHRIS and his team,” said DIAL GLOBAL CEO PAUL CAINE. “This is a momentous indicator of the irreplaceable role audio plays in sports and we continue to work every day to ensure we are producing top-of line experiences and programming for the passionate and dedicated sports fans nationwide.”
