Correct, shipwreck. This is completely about Herb and his O-Hater obsession.
Deane, there are times to like Obama and times to dislike him. When conservatives reflexively bash him (Skybill) and it's undeserved, I'm going to call out those conservatives. But that doesn't mean that I think he's the messiah (again, Skybill).
For me, these are things that Obama has f'ed up:
-nonsensical, corporate-driven education reform
-not defining a clear role for the U.S. in the Middle East
-should have moved way more aggressively to recover the economy through stimulus.
-gave the banks that caused this recession a huge pass, with no prosecutions to speak of, and now they are even more "too big to fail"
-use of drones for civilian law enforcement
-continuing Bush-era policies of violating Constitutional rights to privacy
I'm sure there's more if I had the time. I can tell you that if he starts to move boots back onto the ground in Iraq, then I'll be in that "disapprove" category with Herb.
But that, in no way whatsoever, means that I'm abandoning Liberalism. If I disapprove of Obama, it's because he's abandoning my core principles, not that I'm abandoning his.
Or maybe it is because I'm abandoning his. Because from Day 1, Obama has been a right-leaning centerist, and the farther he leans right, the less I like him.
EDIT ADD: In fact Herb, liberalism is on the rise:
