Drew Carney is being moved to the 4 pm show. I have a friend there who says at least the new owner is a major established TV company and not a Sinclair or Bain Capital.

Any time you have a change in ownership there's certainly going to be some changes and even downsizing. The new owners will come in and say all the right things but in the end they are only beholden to their shareholders and the profit margin. I know there are some nervous people at KGW... in all departments. The November book was not good, morale is down, and come Jan 6 things will get very interesting.

Helicopters are incredibly expensive to operate and they are much more maintenance intensive than fixed-wing aircraft. A mid-major market station could justify the expense by using choppers for traffic reports in addition to covering lots of ground fast for breaking stories, but once states and cities started installing webcams for traffic, it reduced the need/justification for helicopters.

If expenses-be-damned, a helicopter can still be justified for getting a reporter there "yesterday," but when a manager has to watch a station's bottom line, the need or desire for a helicopter becomes a tough call.

I saw Abbey do a report for the KGW 5 PM Newscast Friday on the Boeing contract vote in Seattle. She appeared tired or slightly unhappy which makes me wonder if she really wanted to make the move to KING. While she certainly has the chops to work in Seattle or even a bigger TV market she seems more like a Portland kind of gal.

Anyone catch Matt Zaffino's sarcasm tonight on the 5PM newscast about Sky 8 being gone?

Sky 8 is what brought KGW to prominence back in the 90s. But now things have dramatically changed as I've mentioned before. Longtime employees are openly upset and bitter at more than just a helicopter being gone. The GM is bringing the station to new lows. One employee is giving the ND 6 months before he's gone. But I'm sure the new ownership will have more tricks up its sleeve.

What will happen to Sudio on the Square location? Is that going away also due to downsizing.
