Similar situation happened to me as well....I was raised a Methodist..went to the Sunday School and some of the childrens programs and youth groups etc...fine...

Well we moved and there was a divorce and I didnt go to church anymore because my dad didnt and neither did my stepmother...but I rather missed it sometimes...anyway..well I had a friend in Middle School and he was always going to church ...his mother was rather enthusiatic about it all as well...so one Sunday I went with them..WELL...turns out ..it was a Jehovah's witness church..

Boy did I get a lesson in the difference between Methodists and Jehovah's witness ! SLaying in the spirit...laying on hands ...I was rather forced to go up to the alter..and have the preacher lay hands on me and shake my head casting out the devil ( they assumed I had the devil in me..but they didnt even know me) ...and praying that I did well in school..but it was SHOUTING and a lot of theatrics...it was shocking nevertheless..well..I was about 13 and could take it in stride, somewhat...I still had a friend..but I NEVER went back to their church again..it was the first time I had ever seen this in the flesh..I had seen some of this on TV , as I recollect..

Well, I married someone years later ( I am now divorced ) who got into this kind of psycho 'religion' too..several years after we married..oh god that was tough ! I lived with it for anoher 20 years..I have a lot of experience with this sort of psychotic behavior...( my ex is now certifiably nuts )

Infact that picture which is my avatar right now was taken about the time this all happened ..LOL

I'm a Christian who thinks this is terribly wrong. These religious kooks have no business trying to brainwash small children who's minds are not yet capable of evaluating the messages.

I am suspicious about how much "parental permission" exists. If parents do allow these nut jobs to brainwash their children, they're doing a rather questionable job of parenting.

stevethedj, that's not the issue. The issue is having kooks indoctrinating children with who knows what. Would you want the Westboro Baptist Church group teaching your children those fundamentals. I hope not.

You appear to be one of those who thinks anything with the word "religion" attached is OK. Not me.

Maybe not. Here's more on the CEF from a less biased perspective. I say "Good for Portland."

Normal and evangelical are mutually exclusive.

    From the article...
Good News Clubs teach dark, divisive and potentially traumatic doctrines that are unique to fundamentalist forms of Christianity.
    ...less biased...give me a break...not my faith...
Gonna defend this group to the end. No one is perfect but these are good minded people that want the best for all...even if you reject their message.
